Part 30 - The Moment I First Noticed

As usual, when I wake up, the first thing I do is going towards the kitchen so I can make some breakfast for me and everybody who would be hungry this early in the morning. 

Just when I want to leave the hallway, a horrible smell wakes me up from my half-asleep state.

I walk towards the bathroom on the right side and there I find a sleeping Lilith, lying with her head on her arm, leaning against the toilet seat. 

I look in the toilet bowl and see a disgusting amount of puke.

It's disgusting.

But it explains the smell at least...

I take my bathrobe off, put it around her, and I slowly lift her and take her in my arms, bridal style.

I walk into the living room and slowly place her on the couch, making sure she doesn't wake up. 

I take my still-clean handkerchief out of the pocket of the bathrobe and softly wipe the bits of puke off her cheeks and lips. 

I sigh.

She looks exhausted...

I softly touch her cheek with my index finger for a few seconds, before I turn around and walk back towards the kitchen.

Some eggs with bacon, a glass of orange juice, a few slices of freshly baked bread, and some other things are after half an hour all placed on a tray so I could bring it safely towards her.

I wanted to spoil her a little today.

I've planned to do this one of these days, but since I found her in that state in the bathroom, I thought today was the perfect moment. 

I've always had a complicated relationship with her.

I can't explain it...

It's something like lovers, but without the romance.

Some kind of soulmates.

We could be the weird old grandparents, without having grandchildren or even just children. We're just an indescribable type of match.

That's why I root so much for Johnny and her.

But that tall dumbass doesn't notice that of course. It makes me laugh sometimes to see him being so much in love with her but still being too stubborn to tell her properly.

I was the person that noticed it as the very first. The relationship between those two just slowly started to change. I have the benefit of seeing their heartbeats change when they suddenly pass each other or just stand a little too close towards each other. But the change happened already a long time ago and it came to the point that you didn't need supernatural powers to see how he feels about her. I don't exactly remember the first moment I noticed it, but I remembered the moment I knew it for sure...

~Flashback~  fifteen months ago...

Lilith and I were running through the burning building of an old lawyer's office. The company grew so much that they needed to move to a bigger building, which caused this building to deteriorate.

For a few months, there were a bunch of drug dealers that started to do their business in this building and we wanted to catch them today and their reaction for our break-in was lighting the building on fire.

Now, everybody had split up and I don't think that the building could hold us much longer. 

The left-wing had already partially collapsed.
