"Ugh! Adrianna wake up!" the heavy weight yells.
I stuff my head further into my pillow.
Maybe I could suffocate before I face her.
Alas, my dreams are crushed as she strips away my comforter.
"What?" I gurgle with my mouth full of pillow.
"It's Monday Ade-y! Wake up! We have things to do," she chirps.
It takes a few moments to comprehend the inevitable, then in a flash I fly from my bed and make myself presentable. I then saunter arm in arm with Havva out the front door and to her car.
It was a late night. I had easily avoided my sister--thank goodness for her current boyfriend--and I only had to stay alert for my father's presence. I did not know if I could face him after doing such a horrible thing the day before. I didn't know if they knew, but I was still ashamed.
"What's wrong Ade?" Havva's concern makes me smile. We share almost everything with each other.
"I saw something yesterday."
"You did? A hottie?" she teases.
"No, Silly," I chuckle then sober up. "I went to drop off the cookies-which were delicious by the way-and I saw something at the headquarters."
"Okay spill," she catches my solemn mood.
I lick my lips and take a breath. This is Havva I'm talking to. She is there for me. We have each other's backs. Always and forever.
"I saw...a thing," I wince at my own description.
"What thing?" her eyes narrow in impatience.
I need to tell her before we arrive at the coffee shop.
Goodness, I lack guts.
"Okay," I huff out, "I saw a thing. As in the enemy thing. As in the killing machine freak pseudo-human thing!" my voice increases along with my thoughts of never going to my father's work again.
Havva is astonished, but she remains in control of the car. Something I would be incapable of if I had heard the news.
"Woah." That's all she says!
"Yes, 'Woah.' Is that all you can say?!"
"It's just that. Isn't that against the law-"
"Of course it's against the law," I cut her off. Obviously it is against the law. "It is headquarters Havva, they can do that stuff." I roll my eyes.
"Woah....you're a rebel," she smirks.
I huff in exasperation. Not quite the reaction I anticipated.
We pull into the parking lot and she stops me from getting out immediately. "If the facility is bringing in werewolves, you need to stay far away from there Adrianna."
I was blowing off her small lecture in my mind until she said my full name.
I smile curiously at her. "Well look at you, being all responsible and protective. Who knew you had it in you?"
She purses her lips and sets her gaze on me, "seriously though, Ade, you need to avoid that place. That means no more father daughter bonding at his work, no trips for money or favors, and no trips to drop off gifts for him. This is serious Ade, there is a reason we have that law."
