The Monster Inside Me

Today is my birthday and I was woken up by (Y/n), Rouge, and Cream. They dragged me to town where we went to get breakfast. The waiters did the thing were they bring out a fat stack of pancakes with a sparkler on top and were singing 'Happy Birthday' to me.

That was the best part because (Y/n) didn't know that was even a thing and she was just so surprised. So I let her keep the sparkler so we can find some similar later. After we finished at the restaurant, we went to the mall where Rouge treated me to a shopping spree.

And I mean they picked out clothes they thought looked nice on me. I didn't mind though. I liked to see them all happy and giggly. Especially (Y/n).

Lately, we've been so much closer than before and I genuinely believe I'm in love with her. But I don't think she knows anything about that. I don't want to scare her or make her think she needs to have the same feelings back. I want to do what makes her happy.

"So! How is your day of birth so far?"(Y/n) asked as we sat on a bench in a store. Rouge and Cream were picking me out a couple pairs of shoes to try on. "Great. I'm really thankful that I could spend it with you,"I smiled.

She smiled brightly and her cheeks turned a bit red. She looked down at her feet. "Well, I am too. I never knew it could be this exciting. Doctor Eggman used to have a 'creation day' for me but it was nothing like this. It was mostly him checking my overall growth once a year,"she said.

"No more of that. You'll be having your own day of birth too,"I grinned. "Let's not worry about me. It's your day. What is the one thing you truly, truly desire?"(Y/n) asked.

I blushed as I stared at her. "If I say it out loud...it might not come true,"I replied, looking down. "Really?! That's unfair! I believe everyone should obtain their desires no matter how flamboyant they are about them!"she yelled.

I chuckled and shushed her. "You can't yell in stores. You'll disturb other shoppers."

She realized what she did and gave me a sheepish smile. "Oops."

Rouge and Cream came back momentarily with lots of shoes. And of course they made me try them all on.

By the time we left town, the sun was already set. When we made it home, the girls dropped off my stuff in the living room and claimed they had another surprise for me.

"You have to cover your peepers,"(Y/n) grinned. "Peepers?"I smiled. "Shh! Cover them!"Cream yelled. "They're gonna beat you up if you don't,"Rouge chuckled. I reluctantly covered my eyes with my right hand.

Cream's tiny hand grabbed mine and led me to a different location. I then felt the cool breeze of outside in my quills. I stood still for a moment before Cream's hand left mine. "Can I open now?"I asked.

"Yes! Open your peepers!"(Y/n) yelled excitedly. I moved my hand and opened my eyes.

"SURPRISE!"

I smiled brightly at everyone in the backyard. 

Bright yellow lights were strung up around the tall, white fence, illuminating the whole yard and everyone's smiles. All my friends and quite a few of people I didn't exactly know stood wearing party hats and were blowing noise makers into the air.

There was a long table with all my favorite snacks and drinks on it along with blue and green balloons tied to the sides. A small pile of beautifully wrapped presents sat right beside the table. There was even a dj booth with huge speakers where Knuckles stood.

I couldn't hide the excitement even if you paid me. I was smiling so hard my cheeks were starting to hurt a little.

"Wow. This is all for me?"I asked. "Of course! Who else would it be for?"(Y/n) smiled, taking my hand into hers. My heart flipped in my chest.

"I am just...beyond words. Thank you so much, everybody! I really don't know what to say,"I smiled. "Don't say anything then. Let's all have fun!"Cream squeaked.

Music started and the sea of bodies melted into one big uncontrollable tsunami of dancing figures.

(Y/n)'s POV~

I watched at Sonic's emerald eyes sparkled in the lights surrounding us. Seeing him so excited and happy warms my chest.

Rouge said he'd love this. Being surrounded by people who care about him and lots of food.

He excitedly pulled me into all the dancing people and pulled me close to him. My body pressed against his and I could feel his heart thumping against mine. I blushed as I looked up into his eyes. Sonic smiled before pressing his lips against my ear.

"Do you remember how to dance?"he asked. I almost couldn't hear him over the music and laughter of other people. I nodded and he took my hands into his.

I'm not sure how long we danced together, but it got really hot dancing around all those people. Then a slower song came on.

"I-I don't know how to dance to this,"I said softly. "I'll show you,"Sonic smiled. He took my arms and wrapped them around his neck before wrapping his around my waist. I blushed heavily as I looked into his eyes. They glimmered softly as he guided me in moving slowly from side to side.

"You got it?"he asked. I nodded. He was so close. His breath tickled my lips and his body was so warm against mine.

I thought he was going to come even closer but he was just pulling me into a hug. His arms were snug around me. I could feeling his heart beating so calmly. Before I knew it, I was hugging him just as tightly. It felt like time had stopped and we were the only ones dancing.

After the song ended, Sonic pulled away from me and looked into my eyes. He looked like he wanted to say something, but instead, he smiled before kissing my forehead.

We decided to take a break and went to the snack table. We had some sodas before a man whisked him away to speak to some people.

"I'll be back,"Sonic reassured me. I nodded and smiled at him when he left. I found Rouge and Blaze and began talking to them.

"Have you told him yet? We saw how you two were dancing together,"Blaze teased. I blushed, taking a sip of my drink. "N-No, I still haven't told him. I don't know when the right time would be,"I said. "It's okay to wait. Maybe when you guys are alone you can hint at it a bit,"Rouge nudged me.

I hesitated. "Would it be bad to tell him now? I can just tell him and that'll be it. But...what if he doesn't like me back? Will he still want to be my friend?"I asked. "Yes! Tell him! Trust me, (Y/n). There's no way he won't want to be your friend if things don't work out. He's gonna be there for you no matter what,"Blaze reassured me.

My heart quickened. I believe I'm going to do it. I'm gonna tell Sonic how I feel tonight.

"Alright. Excuse me, please. I'm gonna go change into something less...sweaty,"I smiled before leaving. They both grinned and nodded at me. "Good luck, (Y/n),"Rouge smiled.

I ran over to Sonic who was still talking with a couple friends I didn't know. I cupped my hand around his ear. "Meet me in the living room in twenty minutes,"I whispered. His cheeks burned crimson as he stared at me with wide eyes. I grinned before walking towards the house.

I had to squeeze past a couple people but when I made it, someone grabbed my upper arm. It was Amy.

"What did you tell Sonic?"she asked. Her grip on my arm was tight. "N-Nothing. It was nothing,"I said. "Where are you going?"she asked. "I'm just going to get changed,"I said. She glared menacingly at me before I snatched my arm away.

"Please. Keep your hands off me,"I said calmly.

I returned her glare before walking inside.
