⚠️Spoilers From Legacy.
Sophie Foster hated secrets. Much to her dismay, she had a ton of them. She hated keeping secrets and she hated people hiding them from her. But she knew secrets were meant to be hidden for a reason.
One of her many secrets were that she was unmatchable. Due to her lack of knowledge of her parentage, the matchmakers had deemed her unmatchable until she could answer those slots. Only a few people in the room right now knew. Keefe Sencen and Fitz Vacker. Well, the bodyguards knew too, of course.
Keefe knew because he had helped her try to figure out who her biological parents were. He was always there for Sophie to vent, rant, anything to.
Fitz found out by accident. He had overheard Keefe and Sophie talking. It's been weeks since the fight at the Dwarf Kingdom. Tam was still gone, Fitz was still mad that Sophie and Keefe let his brother go, and Sophie knew who her mother was. Things have been very difficult lately.
Sophie was working with her biological mother on opening a cache and finding a forgotten secret. Doing so would break many vows her mother had made when she became a councillor, but Sophie's very existence did as well. Her mother saw that opening the cache was worth the risk.
Sophie hadn't been in contact with Team Valiant. Stina, Dex, Biana, and Wylie were apart of it with her. They were appointed to Regents and each assigned to councillors. Sophie felt bad for not talking to her team, after all she was the leader. They waved it off, saying she should focus on what she was doing.
Keefe was yet to wake. Sophie would visit him as much as she could. She had been there when his mother 'began his transformation.' According to Elwin, he may be manifesting a new ability.
Fitz and her haven't talked in a while. They were on 'break,' as Fitz called it. After everything blew up, quite literally, they had talked about their relationship. Sophie wasn't ready for one and she had too much going on to keep one. Fitz understood.
Besides watching over Keefe and trying to open the cache, Sophie was worried about Tam. He had fled with Glimmer after the fight. But he was back with Glimmer, who were now friends. He invited the girl to live with him and Linh, much to his sister's dismay. Linh had told Sophie that her brother had changed a lot. Though, Gimmer had rejected the offer.
"You've been staring at my wall for a while." A voice spoke. It was groggily but had the same teasing tone to it.
Sophie turned to see the male she had visited up. He sat up and shot her his signature grin. "It's good to see you up."
Keefe stretched his arms, scrunching his nose in pain, "Feels nice to be up. Except the pain, I don't like it."
"I'll hail Elwin and tell him you're up." Sophie reached for her imparter but Keefe stopped her.
His icy blue eyes looked into her sparking brown ones. They were filled with pain, which his expression didn't show. He was grinning at her. "Let's talk before we get Elwin to come over."Sophie set her imparter into her lap, "Alright. What do you want to talk about?"
"How long was I out?" Keefe asked.
She watched as he touched his blonde hair. Some strands had curled while the rest were wavy. "A few weeks."
"Did I beat the Foster record?"
Sophie glared at him."I saw a few things when I was out." His voice went dark. He cleared his throat. "You were mentioned. Not as Sophie, but as the Moonlark."
She didn't speak, allowing him to keep going.
Keefe rubbed his forehead, "A bunch of cloaks, which I guessed were the Neverseen. They were talking about breaking someone."At the same time, both elves had quoted the same line, "If we can't break her, we'll kill her."
Keefe looked at Sophie, "Am I missing something? Were you in my head?"
"No," Sophie shook her head, "I've had the same dream since you've been out. I guess we had the same one."
Keefe nodded, "You do realize they're talking about you." His icy blue eyes held concern, not like the ones that haunted her dreams. "They're going to kill you."
"I know."
