-Aurora's p.o.v(mostly)-

"Never let your scales betray you Aurora, they will get you killed." These were the last words Aurora ever heard from her father, Storm before he left Aurora and her sister, Plumeria to go back to the ice kingdom. He looked down his snout at his two hybrid daughters, no sign of regret or love for them in his dark eyes. Plumeria's wings flicked back in iridescent waves of crimson and white, she growled softly and Aurora shot her sister a warning look. Please don't start an argument with father, not now!

It wasn't really Plumeria's fault that she was so protective of her, ever since their mother had died two years ago, Plumeria had filled the role of mother for her. That day two years ago, a dragonbite viper had slithered through the tunnel that led to the kingdom of sand into the rainforest and attacked her mother, Cloud. Aurora shivered at the painful memory and fought back tears. They had been gathering fruit only a few trees away from each other when a shriek ripped through the rainforest. Aurora had rushed over to where her mother was to see if she was okay, only to find her laying with her wings splayed out on the ground, twitching slightly. The young dragonet had watched helplessly with fat tears rolling down her snout, as the poison marched up her mother's scales like black ropes of fury until its work was done.

Ever since that horrid day, Plumeria was like her second mother. Much warmer than father, who was more like a lump of cold, gray ice the size of an iceberg. "Why? Why do we have to hide?" Aurora snapped her jaws shut, immediately regretting what she had just said to her father.
