The next few days pass without anything interesting happening.

During lunch, Jansen calls out yet another list of names who are supposedly lucky enough to go to a safe haven.

"You guys reckon a place like that actually exists?" I snort. To my surprise, most of the boys remain quiet.

"(Y/n), they fed us, gave us beds to sleep in, saved us from WICKED." Newt says. Thomas catches my eye and shakes his head. Sighing, I keep quiet and don't contradict the blond boy.

Minho reaches for my hand and gives it a slight squeeze.

"Wherever those kids are going, it can't be half as bad as the maze," he says, a grin tugging on the corner of his lips. I reach up and ruffle his hair fondly before returning to my meal. At least the food here is good.

While I'm chewing, I feel a pair of eyes silently observing me from elsewhere. I let my gaze drift to the left-hand side, and lock eyes with the same guy from yesterday. Today, he has a hoodie drawn over his head, making it harder to see his face. However, I still notice his dark circles which seem even more pronounced than the day before.

Cocking my head to the side in question, I narrow my eyes at him. When he finally notices that I'm staring at him too, he freezes and dips his head down.

Strange.

But then again, this was the same guy who was studying corn.

I'm lying on my bed again, drowning in boredom. I had already paid another visit to the boys, and it was getting close to bedtime. Just as I was about to drift off to sleep, something interrupted.

"Psst!"

I jerk upright, hitting my head against the underside of the bunk above. Hissing in pain, I get to my feet.

"Hello?" I call out cautiously, not recognising the voice. It sounded like a guy, but why would they be here?

"Under the bed. In the vents."

Getting on my hands and knees, I peer under the bed cautiously.

"Corn boy?"

His brows furrow in confusion, casting me a strange look. I chuckle at his expression.

"The first time I saw you, you were holding up a corn cob and looking at it like it was gold," I tease him, watching understanding light up his eyes.

"My name's Aris." He rolls his eyes at me but I can see a faint smile on his face.

"Alright, corn boy."

"Hey, (y/n)," Thomas calls from somewhere behind the boy.

"What are you guys doing here?" I glance quickly over my shoulder, scared that a guard would be at the doors.

"I need to show you two something. Through the vents." The shadows play with the dark circles around his eyes, giving him an even more sunken look.

"Why us?"

"I... I can't explain it, but when I saw you two I got this feeling that you were different," he confesses, mumbling under his breath.

"Well, you're probably right. Thomas and I both got talks from Jansen." I snort, thinking back to the man.

"So, what doy you, (y/n)? Come with us?" Thomas calls.

"Of course! How can I resist the chance to crawl around the vents in the middle of the night?" I grin. "Wait, I'll bundle up my blankets so it looks like I'm sleeping." I hop to my feet and arrange the pillow and blankets so that to the unsuspecting eye it would seem like I was fast asleep.
