A plan is haphazardly thrown together as the boys continue to use blankets, mattresses, and anything useful to barricade the door. Aris pulls Minho and Thomas aside, prattling off directions to get us to one of the exit doors. The Asian boy looks at him intensely, jaw clenched, and nodding occasionally to let Aris know that he's following.
"I'll need to sneak into one of the control rooms, unlock the door so we can all get out of here." Aris runs a hand through his hair, looking overwhelmed by the sudden turn of events.
"I'll go with you," Winston offers. Thomas nods.
"Alright, let's go. Stay together, everyone."
We squeeze into the vents, and I thank the gods that none of us are claustrophobic, or else this would've been a shucking nightmare. Thomas and Minho are leading the way, calling out directions to each other to double-check that we're heading the right way. Aris and Winston have disappeared down a side tunnel, and I bring up the rear of our small group.
"Alright, alright, we get out here." Past the scuffles and grunts, I hear a vent cover being lifted off and cast aside. A tiny bit more light filters into the shadowy space.
We drop down one by one, helping each other along the way. It's not as quick, efficient, or quiet as I could've hoped for, but we still make a pretty decent team.
Thomas looks both ways down the brightly lit corridor, before confidently striding off, the rest of us following like a herd of meek sheep.
"I hope he bloody knows what he's doing," Newt mutters, his limp becoming more obvious as the events of our recent activity start to take a toll on his bad leg.
Thomas turns a corner sharply and abruptly stops in his place causing us all to collide like dominos.
"...What are you guys doing here?" A dark-skinned woman in a lab coat stares at us first in surprise, suspicion, and then fear when she notices our sweaty skin, shallow breathing, and panicked eyes darting around, looking anywhere but at her.
She turns and starts to run. A futile attempt, really. Thomas catches up to her in two strides and takes her arm forcefully, stopping her in her tracks but not hurting her.
"Where's Teresa? Take us to her," he says urgently.
"You guys aren't meant to be out here," the woman replies in a small voice.
"No klunk, take us to the girl. Now." Minho frowns at her impatiently.
The doctor swallows nervously but starts walking forwards.
"You better not be leading us into a trap," Thomas warns her.
We're stopped again soon by a stray guard, probably returning to his quarters. He starts to nod to the doctor but pauses when he notices us with her. None of us speak, and the doctor looks like she's practically begging for help through her eyes.
Cocking his head, the WICKED guard notices Thomas' hand wrapped around her forearm. Reflexively, his fingers tighten around his strange weapon and he raises it, charging it up.
"Uh oh," I whisper under my breath.
Minho roars and charges at the man, who's taken aback in surprise. Before the weapon is even fully charged, strange blue electric light dancing around the barrel like flames, Minho has reached the guard and kneed him right in the abdomen. The man's head rears back and slams against the wall before he slowly slides to the floor. Unconcious.
Hot damn.
Wait this is not the time (y/n) get a grip on yourself-
The doctor let's out a small gasp of fear, hands flying to her mouth.
