Falling in love with Sahaba💫

Miqdaad رضي الله عنه 💕

Part two

He entered into the presence of Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم, dejection breaking through the noor radiating from his features.
There was a slight matter troubling his peace of mind.
Miqdaad lay down his grievance before Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم, relating his encounter with Abdur Rahman ibn Auf رضي الله عنه.
See, Miqdaad -who was a bachelor at the time, was sitting in the company of Abdur Rahman رضي الله عنه  when Abdur Rahman رضي الله عنه popped a question,
"Oh Miqdaad, why do you not marry?"
Miqdaad رضي الله عنه enquired, "Will you give me your daughter's hand in marriage, oh Abdur Rahman?"
Abdur Rahman رضي الله عنه replied, "no no, not my daughter, But surely if you propose to another-... "

This conversation incited a sense of melancholy  and hurt within Miqdaad رضي الله عنه and set his thoughts rolling, "am I not good enough for the daughter of Abdur Rahman رضي الله عنه ? is it due to my not being of noble tribe? Are we not all equal in the sight of Allah?
Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم asked him, "Would it not please you to be married into my family, ya Miqdaad?"
Miqdaad رضي الله عنه could not believe his ears..
He was beyond himself with exhilaration as he exclaimed,
"Indeed oh Rasulullah, but how can someone of my calibre be honoured with such nobility?!"
Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم assured, "I will see to it that you do."
And in no time, Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم married Miqdaad رضي الله عنه to his cousin, Dubaa'ah bint Zubair bin Abdul Muttalib.
This was sufficient a symbol of glory and exultation for Miqdaad ibn al Aswad رضي الله عنه,for his match had been chosen by the greatest of Allah's creation صلي الله عليه وسلم.

An interesting incident is related, with a reliable chain of narrators(summarised):
One day Miqdaad رضي الله عنه had gone to visit the graveyard of baqee' and suddenly experienced and urgent need to relieve himself.
Adjacent to Baqee was a vacant, delapidated plot of land which Miqdaad رضي الله عنه hurried towards in order to carry out his need.

Miqdaad رضي الله عنه narrates:
As I sat to relieve myself, I observed a large rat emerging from a hole and scuttling in my direction. It stopped at my feet and dropped a gold coin, making off towards the hole again.
The rat crawled into its hole, only to re-emerge  with a gold coin in its mouth which it dropped beside the first coin. The rat repeated the act a third time, and again until a total of 17 coins settled at my feet. Finally, the rat scrambled out of its hole one last time bearing a red cloth between its teeth which it dropped next to the heap of coins.
I completed my need and untied the cloth to find another gold coin therein, which brought the count of coins to 18.

Immediately, I rushed off to Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم, showed him the gold coins and recounted the incident, start to finish.
I asked, "Oh Nabi of Allah, what should I do with these coins?"
Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم replied with amazement, "Take it, it is for you from Allah."

"How much should I give from it, ya Rasulullah?"

Nabi صلي الله عليه وسلم responded, "oh Miqdaad, take it home, it is yours and may Allah ta'ala bless you in them. But may I ask, oh Miqdad, when you beheld the rat issuing forth gold coins from the hole, did you trace it and place your hand inside the hole in a bid to collect more?"

Miqdad رضي الله عنه replied, "By Allah, Nay, oh Nabi of Allah! I did not do so. I did not do so."

Miqdaad رضي الله عنه states that the barakaat of these coins remained with him until his last days.
This, dear readers, is the merit of sahaba. Allah allowed extraordinary occurrences to manifest at their hands by virtue of their devotion and sacrifices made for the cause of His Rasul and His Deen.

During the khilaafat of Uthman رضي الله عنه
Miqdaad رضي الله عنه was observed sitting atop a box in one of the markets of Hims.
He was  advanced in age and had grown exceptionally huge. He sat as if awaiting something,
hands resting upon the hilt of his sword.
The observer who was a youngster enquired, "Oh  Sahabi of Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم, what are you doing here, what are you waiting for?"
Miqdaad رضي الله عنه responds, "I am waiting for the call of jihaad to be announced so that I may join the platoon of Mujahideen."

"Ah but why don't you return to your home for you are indeed excused from fighting in His path due to your old age."

Miqdaad رضي الله عنه argued, "Oh my beloved son, what are you saying?! Did you not hear the verses refuting your claim, "set out (in the path of Allah) heavy and light and strive in the path of Allah with your selves and your wealth..."(suratut tawba)

This was Miqdaad ibn al Aswad رضي الله عنه, an ardent  Mujahid up until the departure of his soul at the the ripe old age of 73.

As his heroic name is sung through the pages of History
and the glorious legacy he left behind imprints upon our memory,
Our hearts develop an awe and admiration,
a deep rooted yearning
for a day when we shall be favoured with the good fortune of meeting such a legend رضي الله عنه.
