Chapter 7 - The Hand of the Abyss • Part 1

To save ourselves the drama, I wait for Johnny at home whilst he's arriving at the airport. Jeez I'm really making it sound like we're a couple. Harper what are you doing, what makes you think this man is coming straight over to yours. As I realise my stupidity, I sigh and decide to get in the shower and wash my hair - just in case I do see him today, a girl gotta be prepared. I get out and do my makeup whilst my hair is still wet. I do my favourite look, red/brown smokey eyes and pink nude lipstick, you can never go wrong. I dry my hair and get dressed before styling it. Again, just in case I do see him, I want to look casual but nice, so I choose a white turtleneck knitted jumper and some blue ripped jeans with my ugg boots. After getting dressed I style my hair in a messy bun with pieces falling down the side of my face.
I hear a car pull up outside, oh my god i was right, It's Mr Depp coming to see me. Okay do i sit inside like ive not noticed his car and wait for him to knock, or should i just run out and hug him, i mean both options make me sound desperate as fuck.
I choose the latter option, because if he's made the choice to drive round he clearly wants to see me. However, to save myself some dignity, I walked, as I felt running was just too embarrassing - i only run when completely necessary.
So, i'm walking, it's a completely normal walk.

JAMIE. What the fuck are you doing here!

J - "Oooh you're looking dolled up, who you waiting for, has lover boy not turned up, what a pity..."

HJ - "Jamie, how does this not get into your thick fucking skull, i don't have a lover boy, im not dolled up, and i definitely don't want to see your face anymore!"

J - "Harper, we both know we're gonna end up together, let's not wait and just get back together, it would save us both so much time."

HJ - "How romantic. My answer is and always will be no, so just go home will you"

J - "I've got no home Harper, i've got nothing, you're the only thing i've got left"

HJ - "Go to your parents Jamie, i can't help you."

J - "I think i'll just wait and see if lover boy turns up, i've known you years Harper, and i know that you don't look like that unless there's a man on the scene."

HJ - "Like ive said ten million times, there is no fucking lover boy, just go home i really don't want to see you.

I just walked back inside and shut the door behind me. Im so tired of Jamie, he's that crazy ex that just shows up, do you ever wonder what it is that makes people do stuff like that, like do they not think of how stupid they look? I definitely fucking wonder. I mean it's clear that everytime Jamie has turned up, he's steaming drunk. The smell is just wow, and the slurred words are a big giveaway also. However, ive learned from past experience, not to get angry back with Jamie unless you're over the phone, because he gets too big for his fucking boots. He thinks he's like the hulk or something, but in reality he's more like fucking bambi. I see Jamie walk over to his car and get in it, but not drive off. Oh great. Fucking great.

Next thing I hear is a car door shut, I wait for his inevitable knock on the door. But he doesn't. I look out my window and see a pissed off Johnny going right to Jamie's car at the end of the driveway. Fuck.

I run out this time - ironically because it's necessary. Shouting at Johnny to ignore him and come inside.

JD - "Who is this brat Harper?

HJ - "It's a long story, please come inside Johnny"

J - "Ahh, so this is lover boy, very nice to meet you, I'm Jamie."

JD&HJ - "Shut the fuck up Jamie"

JD - "Just tell me who he is and ill come inside."

HJ - "An ex, he just keeps turning up when he's drunk"

I see Johnny look at him, and back at me.

JD - "Why does he keep turning up?"

J - "What the fuck has it got to do with you?"

HJ - "Since the paparazzi got them pictures, he's not left me alone."

I see Johnny walk over to Jamie and whisper something in his ear, Jamie's reaction tells me it wasn't nice. Jamie takes a step back and looks down his nose at Johnny (like i said, he has this big act of looking scary)

J - "You've gotta be joking mate, i'm not leaving just because lover boy tells me too."

JD - "if you know what's good for you 'mate', you're gonna leave in the next five seconds."

Jamie walks over to Johnny and pushes him back. Johnny looks at me and I nod my head as if he's asking for consent to beat the shit out of this man.

Johnny grabs him by his collar and takes him to his car. The whole time he's shouting at Johnny to let go of him.

J - "Get your hands off me alright!"

JD - "Jamie don't do that"

J - "Why? because you think you're a big man, eh?"

JD - "No, because your drunk and i'm trying to help"

Jamie goes for Johnny again, but hits him across the face. Oh god i feel so bad for Johnny, he's just come home from court and has to deal with this. Well done Harper, great coming home present.

JD - "Look, I'm warning you, you're really pushing it. Stop"

J - "You know you wanna, so just give me what i deserve"

I start to see people congregate at their windows and look what's going on outside. I can't let this happen to Johnny, he'll be in the media again. I've got to stop it somehow.
I tell Johnny to come inside, he can tell i'm distressed so he starts to make his way inside. But then Jamie follows on and grabs Johnny's arm. I whisper before he gets dragged away, 'people are looking'.

J - "What's up big man, can't finish what you started?"

Me and Johnny both shout in unison to let go of his arm, so Jamie let's go, but soon replaces it with another hit across Johnny's face.
Johnny once again grabs him by his collar and pushes him up against his car, and says

JD - "I'm gonna let you have that one 'mate', because i've been in your shoes and i know what drinking does, but you push your luck again and it's gonna run out fast. Now you go home."

Without a second glance, Jamie gets in his car and drives off. Johnny looks at me from across the drive and gives a small smile, I nod my head to say come in. As soon as he's in and has shut the door, I instantly wrap my arms around his neck and repeatedly apologise for Jamie, he wraps his arms around my waist and kisses my forehead, whispering 'it's not your fault Harper, that guy was a jerk'.
As I let go, I went and got us a drink, and from the kitchen I shouted to Johnny and asked how his flight was. He replies with 'same old you know, bit of turbulence but nothing odd'. I come back with our drinks and we sit down on the sofa. Johnny gives me a sympathetic smile and asks about Jamie. He asks 'how many times as he turned up like that?', and I just replied 'Okay, since the paparazzi, he's been ringing and turning up non-stop, i wanted to tell you so bad but i didn't want anything to ruin your court case.'
He held my face with his big hands and said, "Harper, you're too sweet, you should've told me i could've had someone come and deal with him while i was away", still holding onto my face he kisses my forehead again. I feel my face burn red, and I'm hoping to god he can't feel it.
Silence.
Not an uncomfortable silence. It could never be with him. Just silence. Both looking at each other. I break the silence and tell him "I missed you J", and you know what, I'm not even embarrassed because I know he missed me too.
