chapter fourteen - act one
AFTERMATH OF A BATTLE
──────────If only he were to ask, Eden Abren would follow Din through the cracks within the universe and traverse the darkness upon the other side. Many years ago she'd promised herself never again would she grow so attached to another, but as the man, whose face would forever remain unknown, slowly began to take a hold of her heart, she found herself caring little; purposely dancing within the bliss of ignorance.
Despite this notion, Eden had been beyond wary in entering a battle against a notorious imperial walker, on the behalf of people they owed nothing, nonetheless. But fate had stood beside them on that solemn night, and guided them down the path of reigning victorious over their wretched enemy.
Days had come to pass since the battle settled down, and as the radiant sun rises to signify a new day, Eden Abren stares longingly upon the village she had fought to protect. A bittersweet smile threatens her cracked lips, the aching of her inner conflict obvious through the pained expression. She was thankful they'd fought to save the homes of many, despite how hopeless it may have seemed, but in the dull of the action, the reminder that they soon must flee again came seeping in. No matter how much she wished to settle down, this could never be her home; the target upon not only her back, but Din's and the child's, were like a ticking time bomb - waiting to explode with a catastrophic ending for all.
Upon the front porch of a lodging are Eden and Cara, lounging comfortably upon a bench of which had been set out for them. Within each of their hands is a bowl of soup Omera had gifted them, the former of the two watching joyously as the child plays within the field before them. Leaning next to the open doorway of the lodge is Din, and though his expression remains unseen, Eden knows he too is gazing at the child, a sense of longing brewing within him; a longing that it could forever live this peacefully.
"So, what happens if you take that thing off?" Cara's voice pierces through the thoughtfulness that had overtaken both Eden and Din's minds. She takes a gentle sip from her bowl of soup as she casts her gaze towards the Mandalorian's armour; the flickering sun reflecting off the metal. "They come after you and kill you?"
"No. You just can't ever put it back on again."
"That's it?" Cara's brow arches at the man's answer, an incredulous expression befalling her features. "That's it? So, you can slip off the helmet, settle down with beautiful young Eden here and raise your kid sitting here sipping spotchka?"
"You know, we raised some hell here a few weeks back. It's too much action for a backwater town like this." Din responds, his arms crossing lightly across his chest. For a mere second, he allows his gaze to be torn away from the child, turning it toward the two women beside him. "Word travels fast. You might wanna cycle the charts and move on.
