Chapter Four - Sour Milk
"Sandy! You're shivering!" George exclaimed, he reached over and clasped my shaking hands in his. I glanced down, damnit. I always have to embarrass myself in front of boys.
Why was I so embarrassed in front of George though? I was never so timid in front of the usual boy. but then again, George somehow wasn't the usual. He didn't look half as bad, in fact he was extremely good-looking. His chocolatey hair flopped about, bouncing a little when he moved rapidly. His eyes, the same colour as my hot chocolate. But we had only just met... I would never forget those eyes... Then it hit me, I didn't have to, he worked here so I could see him whenever his shifts were! Smiling I stared at our hands. Mine were suddenly warm and cozy inside his warm cage he had placed them in.
"Yeah, I shiver a lot. Sorry." Was all I could think of, little did he know, the little sparks my hands were feeling from the contact with his skin was making them shiver even more. It was a new and exciting feeling, but I liked it.
"It's alright! You know, you're a strange little one aren't you?" He winked playfully.
"Yeah well what's wrong with being a little strange?" I argued. A wide grin spread itself across his plump lips.
"Haha nothing at all! In fact I think strange is cute!" His cheeky smile sent shivers up my spine.
Act cool...
"Yeah you wish!" I smiled.
"Actually, I think that 'cute' isn't my type anymore." He said with a straight face, but the twinkle in his eyes gave him away.
I gasped slightly and took my hands from his warm grasp, slapping lightly on the shoulder. He chuckled and put his hands up in defence.
"Agh! I'm sorry I'm sorry!" He giggled. His eyes were clamped shut, hiding away the beautiful shine they emitted when he looked at me.
I stopped immediately and frowned, missing the warmth of his eyes. He slowly opened them. He became a little more calm when he realised I had stopped and let his arms drop back onto the table.
"Feisty are we?" He grinned.
I stuck my tongue out at him childishly.
I finished my cup of the best hot chocolate in the world in one more sip. Gulping the heavenly mixture down, feeling the warmth slide down my throat.
Me and George had been sat here for a while, just chatting about the most random thing. Such as why hotdogs tasted like hotdogs...
George was gone for now though, he had a shift to work! I had already received a glare or two from his boss, for keeping him waiting so long. I looked outside, the sky was define tally brightening up. It made the place seem just that much warmer.
I had promised George to stay until his shift ended, which wasn't too long away now. In the mean time I had helped keep him busy by ordering a cupcake to nibble on. It was a very nice cupcake, and I thoroughly enjoyed its sweetness, but it was nowhere near as good as George's hot chocolate.
I checked my phone, 17:15. I had been here longer than it felt, luckily George's shift was scheduled to finish at any moment. I stood up, my chair scraping across the floor, making a terrible sound for my unfortunate ears. Walking over to the nearest bin, I dropped the cupcake wrapper in with the rest of the pile of coffee cups and wrappers, also some leftover food!
Walking back to the small table I grabbed the plastic bag which held the bread and milk. Making sure I had everything I suddenly felt a tap on my shoulder. Turning to see a familiar face.
"Hey George!" I said happily, unable to hide the obvious happiness on my face. Luckily he seemed equally as happy to see me.
"Hi Sandy! You ready to go? I'll walk you home, if that's okay?" He lifted his eyebrows waiting for my response.
"Of course you can George."
He took my hand and led me outside. Before stopping abruptly, causing me to skid forward a little and almost fall. Luckily George had a tight grip!
"Oh sorry!" He apologised, steadying me worriedly.
"I'm okay." I said calmly, I couldn't shake the tingling I was receiving from his steady hand wrapped securely round my waist, stopping me from falling. As if protecting me, it was a nice feeling.
"Ok, well where exactly do you live?" He asked with a slight chuckle. I smiled and pointed round the corner I had turned not too long ago.
"Just round there!" I replied. He still seemed confused so I told him the house number. He seemed trustworthy enough. When I told him recognition was evident on he's features and a smile appeared.
"Really? Wow, I only live in the street opposite!" I couldn't hide my grin.
"That's great! Maybe we'll see each other again then?" I asked cautiously, hoping I wasn't rushing things.
"Yeah that would be so cool!" He grinned and together, arm in arm, we walked back like two best friends.
~,~,~
"I'll see you round then!" George waved to me.
I smiled and waved back, before shutting the door. Me and George had swapped phone numbers, so we were sure to see each other again, soon. I sighed contentedly, turning my attention back to my surroundings. I couldn't help but glare at everything I saw. I was definitely not going to get used to this house anytime soon. I wandered into the kitchen, it was almost dinner time and my stomach had begun the process of tying itself up into knots at the thought of food.
"Sandy? Where's the milk?!" My mum rushed into the room.
"I...uh...it's um-right here." I stammered. Damn it! I had completely forgotten about the milk. I would need a miracle to save me now. I silently prayed that the milk would be fine. I handed mum the bag and she stuck her hand in, jabbing furiously until she found what she was looking for. Pulling out the milk she immediately pulled off the cap and took a sniff. She crumpled her face up in disgust and my heart fell.
Yeah, thanks for the help up there.
I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms.
"This milk. Is sour! Sandy you said you would be back before it got spoiled! I'm disappointed! Don't expect me to trust you so much anymore." She said angrily, turning her back to me and pouring the milk down the sink. I groaned and walked out the kitchen and up the stairs.
Reaching my room I flopped down noisily onto the bed.
Great, just bloody perfect. Now my mum was going to hold one of her big grudges.
