me and jungkook plopped down onto my bed, facing each other. he took a deep breath before looking into my eyes.
"this may be a lot to take in, but please bare with me. i'm telling you this because i need to get it off my chest, and because i trust you. okay?" his eyes were doe-like, almost like puppy eyes. they still retained some of the shine from the fighting room.
i nodded. my hand itched to hold his to comfort him, but i decided against it.the room was lit only by my bedside table.
jungkook exhaled a deep breath. he lowered his hand, fidgeting with his fingers. his long, wavy hair flowed on both sides of his face.
"that night at the bus stop. with the first aid kit." his voice was shaky as he spoke.
i scooted closer to him, placing a hand on his back.
"it's okay. you don't have to tell me if you aren't ready to." i gently spoke.
jungkook slightly shook his head. "no. you deserve to know this."i nodded in acknowledgment.
"when you found me at that bus stop and i was cleaning my wounds and stuff, it was the day me and my team had our biggest mission yet." he gulped. "there is another secret mafia organization in town. they are the most disgusting fucking people i've ever known about." a scowl was now written on jungkook's face. "they don't kill criminals, but kill innocent people immediately if they witness one of their killings." a scowl was now written on jungkook's face."so, i finally decided that night, me and my team were going to fully attack them, and try to take down every team member from them. to try and end them." jungkook's previous stern and determined tone began getting softer and softer as he spoke.
"but they were way too strong. i never in a million years expected that type of strength from them, but it was probably due to their bigger amount of people in their team. they took down a good amount of team members from us. if we continued to fight, they would probably slaughter each and every one of us, including me."jungkook lifted his head slightly. his face was beginning to redden. small sniffs could be heard throughout the room. i saw teardrops beginning to form in the corner of his eyes.
"we were going to retrieve back to our base and call it a day. that was until i found out they-" jungkook stopped himself talking. his voice sounded like it was on the edge of a breakdown.
my heart aches for him.
"it's okay." i speak, trying to help him to my ability."that was until i found out they killed my best friend." jungkook scrunched his eyes shut as he pursued his lips holding in a sob. this time, i didn't resist the urge, and intertwined jungkook's hand with mine, lightly squeezing it. he seemed to appreciate the gesture as he squeezed mine back.
tears began forming into my own eyes at the sight of jungkook breaking down, piece by piece.
he's held in his feelings for so long, and the longer he held them in for, the more they destroyed him."taehyung was my best friend for as long as i can remember. when i started the whole mafia thing, he was by my side throughout the whole process. he never let me go down in a fight alone."
"but they took him. they took him away from me. he died protecting his other members, and it's all my fucking fault for not being there to save him." jungkook placed both his hands on his face, shielding himself away from me.i gently took his hands off his face.
"no. don't say that. none of this is your fault, jungkook."
"you weren't there." his voice slightly raised. he sounded so hurt. "i could have been there to help him, to save him. none of this would have happened if it weren't for me."
jungkook sighed deeply.
"when i found out about taehyung, i sent my team back to our base to heal themselves. i told them i'd catch up with them later. i couldn't go home, I couldn't without giving taehyung the justice he deserves.""so i grabbed the first aid kit i always keep on me, and quickly fixed myself up a little before i headed back to the enemy base. alone."
my lips slightly widened. "that's so dangerous, jungkook."
"i didn't care, and i still don't. losing taehyung was enough. maybe the pain would be a little less if i avenged him."
jungkook let out a dry laugh. "i got on top of the highest building i can find with a sniper gun. saw the enemy mafia leader in his office through a window, and shot a bullet right through his fucking head."a mixture of emotions filled my headspace. i didn't know how to react.
i quickly wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes. i embraced jungkook, hoping that is something he needs right now.
and i was right. he hugged me back, his head resting on my shoulder, as he let out occasional shaky breaths.
"it's not your fault." i mumbled into his shoulder after some time. i pulled away, and continued taking to prevent jungkook from denying my statement."believe whatever you want to believe. but sometimes, jungkook, not everyone can be saved by the same person."
jungkook clicked his tongue on his inner cheek. he was staring at me, his eyes slightly shiny.
"you're one human. you were protecting yourself and your entire team as well. i can highly assure you, taehyung's fate was not placed into your hands, okay?" i caressed my thumb over jungkook's hand, trying to check if he hears every word i'm saying.after some time, he sighed again.
"okay." his voice was barely audible.
"i-i'll try and convince myself that. but it for fucking sure will take me a while."
i gave jungkook a gentle smile. "i'll be there for you every step of the way."
he raised his head to face mine, smiling back.
"i hope so."
