I walk to the edge of the maze where all of the other Gladers have gathered for the banishing. Trying to avoid everyone, I walk up to Alby, who was holding the long staff to push people into the maze.
"I said you didn't have to come." He said looking straight ahead of him.
"Like that was going to stop me." I say lightly. I didn't want to be here, but it was hard to stay away. Gally suddenly appeared next to me, tied up. Thomas comes on the other side of me, also tied up. Confused, I look at Alby, who isn't looking at me.
"You shanks all know why we are here." He continued. "However, the decision on who this banishment is for, was not released to you guys." He turns towards me and I can see sympathy in his eyes. "I'm sorry Y/N. You seem to be the cause of these fights, we can't let that continue." My face heats up. The crowd around me lets out some gasps and I can see Newt letting some tears fall down his face. Some Gladers grab my arms and squeeze them so tight I couldn't feel them anymore. They push me to the middle of the crowd, right in front of the walls.
"This isn't fair! She didn't do anything wrong!" I hear Naomi yell. I look back to see Thomas and Gally struggling to find a path to help me.
"Our decision is final." Alby lets out as he motions for the Gladers to put their sticks up. Tears start rolling down my cheeks and I'm filled with panic. I'm about three feet from the maze, when everything seems to stop. Alby looks back, confused at why the Gladers would disobey him. Newt drops his stick and sits on the ground, along with some other Gladers.
"Get up shanks!" Alby yells at them. They don't move. Naomi comes and stands in front of me, blocking Alby from me. Gally and Thomas somehow got out of the Gladers grips and found themselves standing next to me too.
"I said, my decision was final." Alby said, tension in his voice.
"So is ours." Gally said, grabbing my hand. Alby stutters for a moment before walking away, leaving us all in front of the maze. We feel a slight rumbling as the maze doors start to close and I realize, I'm safe. I hear a couple of cheers as the crowd starts to go back to their jobs. Wiping my eyes, I give Naomi a hug, which even surprises myself.
"Thanks slint heads." I smile at them. I get a couple of hugs from different Gladers and soon, it's just me, Gally, and Thomas left alone. Looking at Thomas, then Gally, I realized I had to make a decision. But let's be honest, how do you choose?! 😩

That night at dinner, Alby didn't show up. I was getting pretty worried. He had stayed in his room all day. I guess he couldn't take being disobeyed. Alby was the control freak type and that was hard to be around. Even so, I found it hard to eat knowing how hurt he could be. I decided I had had enough. I got up from the table and marched right up to his room. I knocked on the door as I slowly began to open it. There on the floor, was no other than Alby. He was curled up in the fetal position in a pool of blood. I almost passed out at the sight.
"Alby?!" I rush to his side and turn him on his back. "What happened?!" All he could do was shake his head as he slowly slipped away from me. "You're going to be fine, I'll help you!" I say as I lift him over my shoulder. Alby wasn't fat, but he was no where near light. I stumbled and staggered out of his room. "Help!" Is all I can manage to shout at the Gladers. Newt and Chuck come running towards me. By this time I'm covered in Alby's blood, which he seems to be spitting out of his mouth. 😖 Newt and Chuck grab him off my shoulder and run with him, me stumbling behind. They don't bother to ask me what happened, and I wouldn't know the answer. They didn't even seem surprised by what just happened.
"Y/N!" Gally ran to my side along with Thomas who had food stuffed in his mouth. They grab me and help me up. Daring to look, I glance down at my shirt which was covered in blood from Alby. All color in my face was lost as I bent over and puked. Right on Thomas's shoes. He dropped my arm, causing me to fall a little bit.
"Sorry Tom." I manage to get out. He just nods and takes off his shoes, throwing them aside to help me up again. He seems irritated but I couldn't care less. Right now, I just wanted to get out of these clothes and into bed. I struggle to regain my balance as I am pulled up by the two boys.
"I'll take her to her room." Gally said lifting me up. He put one hand around my waist and one hand around my legs as I nuzzle my head into the crook of his neck. He bounced up and down as he ran to my room. Thomas just stood there, watching as the only boy who seemed to actually care for me, carried me off.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gally lays me down on the bed carefully and helps me take off my blood stained jacket. He softly runs his hands down the sides of my arms until he reaches my hands. I tense up, realizing how close he is.
"I need to get out of these clothes." I say quietly. He nods and tells me he'll be outside, before exiting the room. I take off my clothes and change into fresh ones. It never felt so good. I put my hair up in a bun with the one hair tie I have and tell Gally I'm done. He comes in smiling.
"What happened to Alby? No one even seemed surprised?" I say as I sit on the bed. Gally takes a deep breath, sitting next to me, before he answers.
"This happens every so often. Ever since the changing, he hasn't been the same. He will have little freak out moments and he will bleed from where he was stung and out of his mouth." He says taking my hand. As soon as our fingers touch, I can feel the sparks.
"Oh." I respond looking down. I want to mention how gross that is, but decide to keep quiet, it's not the time. Gally scoots in a little closer and takes my head in his hand. He looks me in the eye a moment and then slowly leans in for a kiss. I breath in a big breath and pull him in closer, before realizing what was really going on. I pull away quickly, not meaning to offend him, but he didn't see that.
"Sorry. It's just-"
"Thomas." He interrupts. I can see hurt in his eyes. "I understand. I haven't always been great to you." We sit there in silence for a few moments before he speaks up again.
"I love you." He said smiling at me. A small smile spreads across my face and I am almost too stunned to say anything.
"Why?" I speak up. I lean forward a bit, just close enough to feel his breath.
"You can't ask why about love!" He says pulling me in for another kiss. This time I don't fight him. After a few moments, he pulls away and smiles into my lips.
"I love you slinthead." I say, surprising myself.
"I love you too." He says before giving me another kiss and leaving. I sit on the bed, smiling, wondering how this all just happened. But one thing was for sure, I had made my choice.
