Eddie sat nervously on the edge of his sofa, anxiously tapping his foot against the floor repeatedly.
His wristwatch read 7:56 and Beverly still hadn't shown up. Eddie could feel his heart sinking a little.

Eddie's self doubt was soon extinguished, however, when he heard a faint tap on his living room window.

Quickly he jumped to his feet and made his way over to the window. He excitedly pulled back the lace curtains to be met with Beverly's smushed up face against the glass.

Eddie jumped back a little in surprise. Cringing as Beverly stepped back and erupted into silent laughter.
Eddie pulled an annoyed face as Beverly rolled her eyes and disappeared from in front of the window.
Soon the ring of the doorbell echoed through Eddie's house as he dashed to the door. He unhooked the lock and sung it open.

Beverly stood their grinning slyly,
"Didn't mean to spook you there,"

Eddie laughed, "No no it's fin-,"
His eyes drifted to Beverly's side. Standing slightly behind her was a boy he didn't recognise.
"Um...,"

Beverly smiled and stepped out of the way slightly, "This is Mike, I hope you don't mind him coming over too, he knows as much about this stuff as I do,"

Eddie looked at the boy for a second. He had dark skin and honey brown eyes which slanted sweetly when he smiled. He wore a plain grey t-shirt paired with worn denim jeans and under his arm he clutched a large oaken box.

"Yeah of course that's fine," Eddie smiled, stepping aside to let them in.

"Mind if we go straight up?" Beverly asked, gesturing to the stairs,

"Um no, go ahead," Eddie smiled awkwardly, it had just hit him that he never really had friends over and he didn't really know how to act.
"Can I-er get you guys a drink or something? A snack?"

Mike turned around and smiled, "We're okay thanks,"
They both began to head upstairs, leaving Eddie standing their with a fake grin plastered on his face.

When Eddie finally followed them upstairs they were both crouching down on his bedroom floor.

"What're you guys doing?" He asked, leaning over Beverly's shoulder to get a peak.

"This is the Ouija board," she explained spreading it out on the floor.

"Cool," Eddie exclaimed, admiring the board.

It was eerily pretty. It was a thin slab of mahogany wood with delicately carved letters across it. At the top left of the board the word 'yes' was carved and on the right the word 'no'.

From the box Mike began setting out several white candles and placing them on the floor.
"You got a lighter, Eddie?" He asked,

Eddie thought for a second, "Yeah there should be one by the fireplace, my mum uses it to light a fire during the winter."

"I'll go get it," Beverly intercepted, smiling sweetly, "then we can get this show on the road,"
She left, skipping out of Eddie's room and onto the landing.

Once Bev had left Mike turned to Eddie, "It's cool that you're letting us come over and try this,"

"No it's okay, you can come anytime,"
