"What is your business here Warden Bert?" asked one of the men in the circle as the warden approached them, the guards led us to the opposite wall from the others, but that didn't stop them from staring at us.
"I came with a solution to our problem." said Bert folding his arms behind his back, he looked at ease but the tension in his shoulders didn't go unnoticed.
"And what would that be?" asked a woman who was sitting at the table.
"I have found the group we need to fight off the demons." said the warden.
The lady stood up from her seat, "I'm sorry to say, that you are too late, the other two elders have brought up other groups and we are having a hard time deciding on which team will be assigned the mission." she said.
"Why not send them all?" asked a blond haired old man.
"We only have one available jet, and we cannot allow all these criminals on the loose" said the woman heading to the front door.
"What if I give you information about them and then it will change your mind." said the warden.
The lady stopped walking and turned around to face him, she glanced at us and one look at Kent and her eyes grew into saucers. Her hand quickly shot to her chest as if something hid underneath.
Her fearful eyes went and found the warden. "How could you take them out of that hard lock down?! They are supposed to be locked down there for life." she yelled. Her face turned red with anger. I saw Bert's lip twitch up into a smirk. Maybe bringing us out to anger her was what he wanted. He knew that Kent effected her in some way. A way that I'd find out eventually. I glanced at Kent who stood next to me and I saw he was sporting a bored look, but I knew Kent better then that.
"Who are they?" demanded one of the elders at the table.
"There the criminal delinquents that were locked up years ago. The ones that everyone feared, the ones that mothers tell their kids stories about so that they wouldn't wake up at night." said the old lady.
"Wow, people tell stories about us!" yelled Anna in excitement. "So they didn't forget about little o'l me."
"That can't be them. It's impossible." shouted one of the elders shooting up from his chair with so much force that the chair fell back.
"Oh but it is." said the warden now with a full blown smile on his face, "The Assassin, the Sadist, the Serial killer, and the Masochist" he said pointing at each one of us as he said our titles.
"Maybe having them on the field will benefit us. They are professionals killers after all." said the calm elder from his seat.
"But my team is more determined then these killers ever could be." said one of the elders.
"I can assure you that my team is determined. Death drives them and they never seem to miss a stop." said the warden.
"Are you implying that your team will get the job done faster?" asked an elder.
"That's exactly what I'm saying. They have more potential, and I have no doubt in their abilities." said bert.
"Here is what we will do. We will send all of the teams onto land. They will kill the demons on the planet and if they die, they die. The groups that come back alive will gain whatever prize that was granted to them before they agreed." said the women elder. She looked around to make sure everyone understood and there was silence. She took that as a confirmation and left the room.
A guard walked up to bert. "I am to take your fighters to the jet first." he said.
"I will accompany you." said Bert, taking a step forward.
"You are needed in the map room to go over the plan of action against the demons." said the guard. Bert hesitated and glanced at us. He knew something was going to happen to that poor soldier if he just took us alone.
Bert looked over at him and nodded. The soldier looked at us with a blank stare, as if he was hiding his emotions from us, the reason being unknown. "Follow me." he said, turning his back towards us and walking through the same door we had come through.
I was going to start to follow him when Bert grabbed my shoulders and I was forced to look at him.
He made a show of tightening my cuffs but I felt something metallic then something that no doubt was paper being slid into my left hand. I clenched my fists closed to hide what he had given me.
"Don't do anything stupid you runt." he said to me in a cold tone and pushed me to follow the others, But I knew it was an act he was putting in front of the others. I complied and went after the others but not without giving him an eye roll.
We were currently walking down a long hall and I was the last one on the line. I had fingered the key that was in my hand and I noticed that there were two of them.
I grabbed the first one and tried to get it into the keyhole. I managed on getting it and I juggled it until I heard the click of the cuffs unlocking. The cuff opened and my right hand was free. Ah so the old man isn't useless after all. I quickly glanced up ahead and saw the guard hadn't heard a thing.
I swiftly moved the key for the cuffs into another hand. I unlocked the other cuff and tucked the cuffs into the back of my belt for later.
I brought up my hands and unfolded the little piece of paper, it read: Eliminate the other groups, steal the jet, find Trent Who the h*ll is Trent? I folded the paper and stuck it into the side of my boot.
Time to get to work.
