He sits on his desk, pouting like a little child as the clock inside the office seems to move like a snail in his sight. 24 year old, Officer Cole Carter waits impatiently before his shift ends and it seemed that the universe kept him from having any luck with love. He's been set up by one of his friends he met during their batch's reunion last week and sure he's been climbing up the ranks as a rookie cop but failed to win a girl's heart every time he had these blind dates.
"Well, at least you're trying, Cole," he mumbled to himself.
"Still on it again?" asked a man sorting files beside Officer Carter.
"Adam-."
"It's Deputy Chief you idiot. Don't you ever show respect to your seniors?" he said, smacking the boy's head. "If you'd be another officer, I'd probably give you a beating much worse than that."
"I only got ten minutes to stay in the office but what if the girl thinks I stood her up?" Blake said as the dismayed look is still seen on his face.
He lays his head feeling the coldness of the metal table, looking for some way not to get more late than he is now to Macy's Restaurant which is about a 5 minute walk from the station. Suddenly, he sits up straight as he looks at the chief with a wide smile on his face.
"Chief Adam Mcintosh, the beloved team captain of the Special Security Organization which I will be joining soon.." he said in a pleasant, seemingly nice voice.
Adam knew what all the talking meant. He let out a sigh of relief. Although he scored the highest during the entrance exam, this officer sure acts like a kid with the level of immaturity he displays. However, he is the closest to the chief whom despite him being dubbed as the grouchy man of NYPD, Cole still treats him like his older brother.
"Fine. This is the last time I'll take charge of your shift," he finishes the last sip of his coffee. "If you want to stay in this field you need to be matured enough for your age, that big brain of yours needs to be put to good use."
"Yes, chief!" he held his hands to a salute, gathering his things as he scurried out of the office.
After running down to Macy's, Blake wiped off all the sweat he got from his race with time. Fancy music played by the piano greeted Cole along his way, glancing through the diners. He was looking for a girl named Sofie Robert, blonde hair with green eyes. There she was on the corner table swiping her phone, taking selfies.
"Ehem.... Hi," he interrupted. "Are you Ms. Robert?"
"Um....yeah," she replied looking up and down, checking the officer. She then rolled her eyes as if she was getting annoyed by his presence."
He sat on the chair in front of her. "My friend Mark must've told you about me," he tried to start off a conversation but all he got as an answer were "yeah's" and "uh-huh's."
I should've just stayed in the station in the first place.
He smiled and let out a sigh as he dug into his pasta.
"So....are you a chief or something?" she suddenly asked.
"Well...I just joined the NYPD last year," he replied.
"So you're just a cop?" She chuckled. "Marky told me how great you are so I thought you were like a well-known person. Nevermind, at least you've got looks."
Just a cop? It made him lose his temper. He stood up and send his farewell to the lady. He didn't want to let out his anger to this girl who only cared about were looks and money.
"I'll pay for the bill, Ms. Robert," He signaled the waitress. "It was nice getting to know you."
He wore his coat and walked out of the store. This was the worst idea ever. Who cares about people like her.
