Out of nowhere, a bright light shone so strongly and overtook us.

Then everything went black.

"Hoy, bata... gumising ka..."
("Hey, kid... wake up...")

I woke up to the sound a a familiar gentle, feminine voice shaking me awake.

Once my eyes adjusted to my surroundings, they widened at the sight of the woman in front of me.

"N-Nanay?!"
("M-Mom?!")

"Anak ng- Hoy, Pip, gumising ka na, o dadating si Nanay kasama ng tsinelas, sige ka-"
("Son of a- Hey, Pip, wake up already, or Mom gonna come in with the slipper-")

I jolted up from my bed at that warning. "Hah?! Ay, kuya D.P. Teka, ano ba ngayon?"
("Huh?! Oh, big brother D.P. Wait, what's today?")

Kuya sighed. "Oras na para gumising ka para sa orientation ngayon sa Earth High. You know, school?"
("It's time for you to get up for the orientation at Earth High. You know, school?")

I groaned and plopped back down on my mattress. "'Sus, yan lang pala. Akala ko importante pa." I scoffed and put my pillow over my head, trying to go back to sleep.
("Sus, that's it? I thought it was something important.")

"Pip-"

"Hoy," Nanay called from the doorway. Wait, since when was she there? "babangon ka ba, o kailangan ko pa ikunin yung ha-"
("Hey,")
("are you gonna get up, or do I need to get the ha-")

Nanay knows just what to say to get me out of bed.

"I'm up, I'm up!" I say loudly, stepping over my pillows with my bare feet as I try to look for my slippers. Unfortunately, this only makes Nanay angrier.

"Hoy, wag mo itapakan yung mga unan mo! Ang dumi-dumi pa ng paa mo!" Nanay scolded me. "Talaga itong batang to, o-"
("Hey, don't step on your pillows! Your feet are very dirty!")
("Oh, this child-")

I dash to the kitchen and see Tatay brewing some coffee. He saw me and smiled.

"Maganadang umaga, anak." He greeted me. "Ang aga-aga para mag sigawan kayo ni Nanay, no?"
("Good morning, my son.")
(It's too early in the morning for your mother to be yelling, no?")

I gulped and scratched the back of my neck nervously. "A-Ah, well..."

Tatay chuckled. "O sige, kumain ka na, at late na you." He said as he brought his full mug of coffee to the dinner table.
("Oh, alright. Go eat already; and you're late.")
