𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐀 𝐔𝐍𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 clothes that
sat on the clean mattress. she shuffled through things that she may would want to wear for the night, as she lifted up her undergarments that sat
flat on the lounge chair in front of her bed.

her shoulders slumped tiredly, due to her not
wasting a second of time attempting to unpack in
one day, which was remotely not possible, seen as
she packed enough for a family of 12, altogether.

vela sighed and ran her fingers through her hair,
searching around the room for any other spaces
that she could possibly fit her items in for storage.
it felt like she had packed and unpacked for what
felt like years, that somehow quickly flew by.

the tiredness took over her body, as she gave up
and sat down, cooling herself down and smiling
to herself. happy with the progress that she already
had made. at that moment, all that she wanted to
do was to get in her pj's and fall asleep, but she
knew she had to introduce herself to the new
standards.

vela gave herself the options of either to check on
her grandmother, or go to ms. grose office so that
both of them could conversate about the new job
that she was about to take on. she knew that she
needed to do both, seen as both were really
important.

after moments of deciding between the two, she
made a plan to take her grandmother with her to
talk about the jobs, being both of them were soon to
be maids, and that way she can have her grandmother by her side.

she slid her hair into a ponytail, as she walked
through the halls of the expanded residence. as vela
walked she ran her hands across the wooded walls
and stared through pictures of the family, she
guessed before the huge accident.

miles surely looked younger, and more happy.
of course, the loss of a parent could change the reality and spirit of a child. it could leave you with
a 𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭.

vela had a bruised spirit once. it slowly faded away
the older she got. to her, revealing her true feelings
were embarrassing and too difficult to deal with.
she expected some type of miracle to lift her up
and diminish all of the pain that flooded her
body. but, she had to cope.

vela smiled and stopped in front of a picture frame,
as she bent down and lightly touched it. she never
had both parents in her life, because her dad left
when her mother told him that she was pregnant.

she only ever had her mom.

who the world took from her.

her thought got interrupted once she heard a
and raspy voice call out to her. out of adrenaline
she snapped her head to the left, her eyes wide, and
chest thumping painfully.

"what do you think you're doing?"
miles was standing a couple inches from her, hands
in his pockets, a look of disgust smudged all over
his face. "i-um.." vela cleared her throat stuttering
her way out of the encounter.

she shifted uncomfortably, as miles took a few
steps closer to her body, now towering over her
small physique.

"look at me" miles demanded. vela didn't know
what to do. she shut her eyes, a lump in her throat.
that was the feeling she got when she was on her
way to tears. vela felt like he was going to shout
at her, and if he did, that would tear her to peices.

"what did i say?" miles gritted his teeth together,
fixated on vela's face, as she shifted her face further
away from his. his breath walked over her skin.

"you said-you said to look at you" vela had such a
vulnerable voice at that moment. if it were anyone
else, they would have let it go and felt guilty. no,
that wasn't working for miles at all.

miles licked his lips, still glaring down at the
small girl. vela mildly gazed upon him, not saying
a single word, phrase, or statement.

"mind telling me why you were touching
our family pictures" miles spoke. the questions
were torture for vela, seen as she was rather
intimidated by the presence of his body.

"i didn't mean to, i - i was trying to get to ms.
grose office" vela pointed ahead, which was behind
miles. he swiftly focused his attention down the
hall, behind him, clenching his jaw.

"i swear" he moved himself to the side, stumbling
a bit, fixated on vela's face. he gradually swung his arm down the entrance of the hall. "go."

she wasted no time, as she pace-walked
down the hall, into the darkness of the fade in
the shadow-filled space.

that was hard for her. not once had she felt
so timid and little. who knew that such a boy could
alter the reality of little miss v. vela figured that she
was clearly on his bad side. "it's just one thing, he'll
get over it" vela thought to herself.

at least that's what she tried to convince herself.

vela knocked on her grandmothers door, as she
waited patiently for her to answer. not even moments later, her grandmother opened the
door and greeted her granddaughter into
her room.

the sounds of vela's shoes hit the floor. she sat
in the bed, peeking out at the sun covered windows.

"so, grams i was thinking that we could
talk to ms. grose about the standards and
requirements of being a maid here" vela
scooted closer to the side of the bed, lifting
up the hairbrush that resided on the edge
of the side-table.

her grandmother took the brush out of her hands,
pulling the spikey parts through her hair.

"so?" vela was waiting on an answer. she didn't
want to miss ms. grose. personally, vela felt as
if ms. grose was a fast worker. always moving
from one thing to another.

"of course, but you do the talking" vela quickly
stood up, stomping one foot on the ground, play
fully huffing, like a stubborn child. "w-why me?"

"that woman is very complex" her grandmother
said, walking towards the door.

vela couldn't argue with that. in fact, almost
every soul was quite peculiar. vela just couldnt
figure it out. she didn't think she wanted to, it
was more about getting to understand them
better, than making them understand her.
