I. CHAPTER ELEVEN

days had passed and vela only had one
thing on her mind. celeste and miles we're wrapped
around her brain and she had no idea who
to run to.

miles stayed residing on one side of her mind,
whilst celeste stayed on the other side if it.

part of her wished that she had never talked to
celeste, because now she was scared and
hesitant. things she did not know about?

ok...she knew that, but the way that celeste
described it made it seem like something was wrong
with him or he had a dark past that she had not
known about just yet.

her hands tugged on her hair as she sat
on the edge of her bed, thinking or at least trying to
think. too many topics we're taking over her
brain at once.

her body spoke for her mind and she got up,
making her way outside of her bedroom door. 'sc-
rew it' she thought out loud. she was headed
to miles' room, alone and in the dark.

vela had no idea why her heart was beating so
fast and her palms were sweating profusely for no
reason. she swallowed as she tucked her hair
behind her ears, still walking.

the light shining from his room was noticeable
enough for her to see. once she got to his door, she
her that all-too-familiar beat of drums that he
played occasionally.

they had a pattern that she accidentally noticed.
the beat of the drums would stop, then beat 3
more times and so on.

the beat would become harder and more
excruciatingly piercing to her ears and head. the
drums had stopped and the room filled with
silence.

she reached for the base of the door and pushed
it open slightly, but enough for her to see most
of his room which included his bed, chair and
carpet

the door was now fully open and she peaked
through , not wanting to just barge in without
his consent or knowledge.

she knocked a few times until he gazed up at her.
she noticed his eyes were red and puffy and his
nose was red all around. had he been crying?

"can i come in?" vela shyly asked. just because
her and miles had a moment a few days ago did
not mean that he was fully showing himself
to her.

he shrugged and she took it as an 'i don't care'.
she nodded and let herself in, closing the door
behind her as it caused and echo all around
the house.

vela bit her lip as she stood in the middle of his
room awkwardly. she swung her feet around and
held her hands behind her back. she had no idea
how or where to start.

"i feel like we need to talk because i've just
been so confused these past couple of days and i
need some type of closure-" miles cut her off.

"stop talking" he simply spoke, looking down
in a trance. "wait what?" vela was confused by his
sudden change of attitude. he looked up at her as
he repeated his self. "stop. talking"

vela squinted her eyes, ready to scream and cry
from embarrassment because she felt like she
rambled I'm too much.

miles rubbed his forehead with the palm
of his hand and sniffled a bit before he started to
chuckle a little bit to himself, but enough for vela
to hear and see

"you're cute when you are embarrassed " he spoke
to her. she had not found this funny at all as her
one and only objective was to come in and ask
him questions and talk so that she could
get to know him better.

"i am serious, miles" she licked her lips and
rested both of her hands on her sides out of impati-
ence. "all i am asking is for some type of answers"

his smile faded and he was back to serious
mode. "what do you want to know then?" he asked
in all seriousness. he firmly ran his fingers through
his loose and bouncy curls.

" i don't know " she said as she walked to the
other side of his room and sat in his chair that was
in front of his bed. "have you ever had a girlfriend?"
she mentally facepalmed, because that was such
a 3rd grade question

he hesitated before answering the question "n-no"
he cleared his throat. vela found it weird how he
started to act funny when she asked him that
question

"ok? well do you have any friends?" vela asked as
she shifted a little in her spot. "heh no, no i like to
stay to myself. the only person i really spend
time with is flora"

she nodded as she understood the feeling of not
being able to socialize with others outside of family.
most of her life consisted of being around her
grandparents and sometimes her cousins

that was not even close to miles' situation,
but who could have known?

vela took a breath before speaking again "do you
have any hobbies?" . "yeah, drumming...i usually do
it when i have something on my mind or if im
upset or angry"

that explained a lot about why he was crying when
she came in and how he was drumming before.

she decided not to bring it up, only because she
did not want to anger him or make him not want
to answer anymore of her desired questions.

"lastly, i have to ask..what are we? and where are
we?"

"whatever you want us to be" he spoke

"that's the thing. i don't know what I want us to be"
she scoffed. the room filled with silence as she
fiddled with the tips of her fingers.

"well then maybe we can start off slow" miles broke
the lingering tension that had built up in the
room.

she thought about it first but nodded her head,
slowly. "i guess, i'd like that" she smiled as she spoke

and so it began.
