Katerina looked somewhat shocked. She really wasn't expecting it. That doesn't mean it didn't feel good. It was her first kiss. It wasn't anything like she imagined a first kiss might be like.
"Woah," Avery said, in about as much shock as everyone at the table, that is, except for Braden who seemed proud.
"What do you have to say to that?" Vida asked, astonished.
Katrina was speechless. She looked over at Braden with a confused look. "Excuse me, I need to talk to Braden." Katrina pulled Braden out of his seat.
"Oooo, he's in trouble." Avery joked. Vida nudged her.
Katrina took him outside, where she was sure Avery and Vida could neither see nor hear them. "What were you thinking?" She demanded.
"You wanted it to be convincing."
"Did you even think?"
"Not really, no"
"Braden, I don't want a boyfriend!"
"So kissing you made it a real date instead of fake?"
"Ugh, let's just go back inside. Just... if you have to kiss me, kiss my cheek, not my lips." Katerina took his hand and they went back inside, smiling.
"That didn't take long." Avery smiled.
"Yeah, you must've found the perfect guy; the only arguments you have are over kisses and they are resolved within seconds." Vida added.
"Yeah, he's the guy for me." Katrina laughed and kissed his cheek. He smiled and half-hugged her. He left his arm around her shoulders.
"So, do you know Alex?" Avery said, sucking up the last of her milkshake.
"Of course, there's no two friends closer than Alex and Katrina."
"Right" Vida said.
They finished their break and went to houses they previously delivered articles to, weeks before, and offered them the newest ones.
After that, they went to drop Vida off at her house, on the outskirts of town. Trees hung over both sides of the driveway. Pulling in the driveway, Vida's dog ran up to the car, barking. She had a black Lab named Georgie. The dog loved Vida.
Vida got out and Georgie jumped on her, wagging her tail. Vida petted her with both hands, flopping her ears and scratching her chin. Georgie panted.
"Thanks for the drive!" Vida said , waving and took Georgie inside. They waved to her as she disappeared behind the doorframe.
Braden backed down the driveway and onto the dirt road, tires crunching as they spun.
"Where to now?" Braden said, driving along the dirt road, towards the highway.
"Why don't we go to Hadfield Park and pick up some food along the way. We could have a little picnic!" Avery exclaimed.
"Sounds good to me, I'm hungry."
"Where would we like to pick up food?"
"The convenience store is fine by me, they have pizza burgers, sandwiches and hotdogs." Avery said.
"Better than McDonalds, yeah, let's go there."
"Ha ha, okay," Braden said and turned onto the highway, towards the convenience store.
