Katerina and Braden went into the bowling alley, hands still linked. Troy walked confidently next to Katrina, Drake beside him. Abigail and Shamus were at Braden's right, Abigail closer. Katrina leaned into Braden as they all went to the desk.
"We're gonna rent out half of the lanes, cool?" Braden asked the group.
"Totally" Troy said as they got to the desk. "Five lanes!" He called out to the boy at the desk.
"No problem" They paid for the lanes and got score cards.
Everyone sat at the lane near the doors and got divided into teams. They wanted to play some kind of bowling championship. Katrina thought she would do horribly. Surprisingly, it wasn't long after they got grouped that she started to take the lead. Her and Braden were playing Drake and Troy for the first round. They used two separate lanes at the same time and compared results.
Katrina grabbed a small green ball and looked beside her, Drake was in the next lane. He picked up a silver ball and held it by the floor. She did the same and swung, throwing it straight for the middle. Drake's ball flew just as rapidly and BAM, they both hit dead centre on the pins. Katrina's ball made pins go flying backwards, left and right. She looked at Drake's lane. Drake knocked down the pins straight through the middle but none on the sides. He took another shot and the ball got so far until it slid into the gutter. Katrina won.
"Woah! Ha!" Katrina yelled. "Did you catch that?!" She leaned over the bowling balls and gestured towards the pins.
"Whatever," Drake rolled his eyes.
Braden and Troy clapped. They both congratulated her. "Hey! Troy, ya remember your team?" Drake said, coming down from the lane and nudging his shoulder. Troy laughed and took his place in the lane.
Braden hugged Katrina, she felt a bit uncomfortable but let it happen because Braden was a good friend and she really felt like she needed to help him out. Braden let go and went onto his lane. He got a spare and Troy got snake eye on the second throw.
Katrina and Braden won the first game. Between Abigail and Shamus, Abigail won and paired up with Drake, who had more points than Shamus and Troy.
This time, Katrina had to play against Abigail. Abigail walked up to Katrina. "Hey loser!"
"Um, hey..."
"I'm going to win, sorry, but we both know you can't."
"Gail! Ya need to focus on your manners!" Braden said.
"Don't call me that, Bray!" Abigail cried.
"Well, we're gonna win, no need to worry!" Braden nudged Katrina.
"Sure" Drake said sarcastically. "Let's see"
Katrina waited for her turn. Braden went first, taking down 8 pins. Drake had a strike.
"Told ya, we're gonna beat ya!" Abigail laughing and flipped her red hair.
The game was close throughout the plays. Katrina and Braden were ahead by four points once, but it didn't last.
It was the last play, Abigail and Katrina went to their lanes. Abigail wouldn't look over at Katrina. She was determined. They through simultaneously. Abigail's ball headed straight for the gutter but curved just before falling in and slowly made its way to the pins. It knocked over a few pins. Katrina's ball crashed into the last few pins and bounced off the back, hitting several more pins before finally falling down. Braden and Katrina won the tournament.
Abigail rammed her knuckles into Katrina's back. "You had more in you than I thought!" She smiled. "Congrats"
As a reward, Braden and Katrina got ice-creams. While they ate them up, they watched the last round of bowling. After Troy and Abigail beat Shamus and Drake, Braden and Katrina went up to Shamus and the guys. "Shamus! We're gonna head off now."
"Cool, well, nice t'meet ya, Kat"
"It's Katrina."
"Kat... right..." He said sarcastically and smirked.
"Nice bowling with ya Katrina." Abigail winked.
"Hey, why?" Katrina asked, confused.
"Kat is a cool name! Try it out!" Shamus said.
Katrina rolled her eyes. "You all are gonna be calling me Kat from now on?"
A few of them nodded. "Yeah, yup" They said.
"Whatever, bye guys."
"Bye!" Abigail hugged her.
"See ya" Braden said to her, hugging her.
"Bray, ya gonna come Friday?"
"Of course Abigail," Braden smiled. "Wouldn't miss it for the world."
"Can I get a drive dude?" Shamus asked.
"Yeah, sure"
Braden, Katrina and Shamus went out to the car and set off for Katrina's house first. It didn't make sense since Katrina lived in Seattle and Braden and Shamus didn't but she just went with it. Then she remembered, she was supposed to kiss him still. Shamus had to see it.
The drive was full of events from the night. They couldn't shut up. It was a buzz of endless talking. Shamus was a talker for sure. He related events from every year of his life pretty much. Katrina was taken back by the words. She couldn't believe it was possible to keep your mouth open so long.
But, she couldn't stop thinking about the kiss. She had to kiss him. They pulled up to her house. Braden opened the door for her.
"Nice meetin' ya Kat!" Shamus waved.
Braden took her hand and guided her to the door. Katrina could feel Shamus's eyes on her back like ice, slowly melting, sending shivers up her spine. Braden and her stood so close at the step. He was holding her hips. She felt so uncomfortable. He was ready. She didn't understand how he could be so comfortable. She stared at the ground.
"Katrina, I'm up here. You're not making it look believable."
"It's hard."
"It's hard, I see. Well, are you ready?"
"For the kiss?"
"Yeah," he tucked her hair behind her ear.
"I don't know," Katrina blushed.
"It's now or never."
"Just do it, ugh, I'm so not rea-"
He pulled her in and kissed her again, mid-word. She kissed him back just to make it seem more believable. She almost liked it, almost. It made her scared to like it. But, did she?
