Katrina packed all night, barely getting any sleep. Her mom wasn't working that day so she drove her to the airport. She dropped off her luggage and hugged her mom.
"See you in a week!" Her mom cried as she walked to the back of the lineup to security.
"Love you mom!" She waved as her mom blew her a kiss and walked away.
She plopped her purse and carry-on in the white tub and let it roll along the conveyer belt beside her. She waited on the heavy mat. The worker waved her in past the metal detector and she grabbed her things on the other side.
Then, she went to her gate to wait.
After a mere seven minutes, she was startled by a voice. "Hey!" He said. It was Braden.
Braden smiled and waved. He was wearing a baggy green shirt and straight grey jeans. He held a heavy duffle bag carry-on, most likely just under the limit. It could last a whole week, the length of her visit.
"Braden? What in the world are you doing here?"
"Going to Kansas, what do you think?"
"Seriously Braden, this isn't funny."
"Kansas, really!"
"Lemme see your boarding pass then!"
He rolled his eyes. "Fine..."
She took the ticket and groaned. "Portland, the first stop on your way to, hmm, let me guess, Spain?"
"Maybe"
"Braden, you can't do this!"
"Yeah I can, got my ticket this morning."
"How? No, don't answer, I don't care."
"You're not angry at me, are you?"
"Furious," she smiled.
A voice came over the P.A. It was the lady at the gate's booth. "Flight 503 is now ready for priority boarding."
Braden sat down next to her and held his bag on his lap. "We have a long trip ahead of us."
"Yup," she said, looking at her lap.
