The Truth

It was my last day with Smii7y before his flight back to Canada. He would be back in only a month and a half to start school, but I was still going to miss him. But, selfishly, I wanted him here when I told Elle the truth.

After talking it over with Smii7y, I decided a text would be easier, because it was too hard saying the things that had happened out loud. Smii7y suggested I say exactly what I had told him, so I typed it out as well as I could remember and hit send. Smii7y put his hands on my shoulders and stared at my phone with me for the response. In only a few seconds, she had read it, and then she was already typing.

When I read her message, my heart stopped and I dropped my phone. Smii7y immediately came in front of me whispering, "It's okay, you're okay."

I couldn't look up from her message, and I heard Smii7y ask through a thick fog if he could hug me. I nodded and as soon as I was in his arms, the world started to shift back to normal, and the fog slowly disapated.

"She wants me to go to the police, Smii7y," I said still in shock.

"I know, honey, I know. Just keep breathing and I'll talk to her for you, okay?" He said trying to make eye contact.

"Thank you," I said as I let myself fall into him. I focused on the sound of his typing for a few minutes until I sat back up again.

Smii7y showed me the text messages.

Smii7y

I know she should Elle but she's having panic attacks everytime she thinks of him

Elle
then we can tell the police! but this guy hurt her!

Smii7y
I know and trust me, I want this guy locked up more than anyone, but we need to focus on what is best for Miki right now

Elle
whats best for her is having her abuser behind bars so she doesn't have to be scared all of the time!

Smii7y
I agree, but she needs emotional and mental help before she will be able to tell anyone, including even us, more about what happened

Elle
Can you at least ask her what she thinks?

"I don't know," I said to Smii7y in response.

"What if we have you talk to a professional or something first, and then when you're comfortable you can go to the police," Smii7y said.

"I don't know if I can."

Smii7y pulled me close.

"That's okay, just forget about it for now," he said into my hair.

As it was our last full day together, I tried to salvage it as best as possible. We decided to just go to the game room which was as old and worn in the daytime as it was at night. We ended up playing a game of pool, and once again, Smii7y won with no competition. I tried to keep my mind blank, and the conversation was minimal, but I did feel safe with Smii7y.

Just as the game ended, Smii7y got a phone call and excused himself outside. I didn't mean to overhear, but he was raising his voice, and I knew he was talking to Elle again about what I should do. I had pushed everything so far out of my mind, I refused to let it resurface, and sat silently on the same bean bag chair as before.

He came back inside, gave me a kiss on the forehead, and assured me everything was okay.

It was about lunch time, so we decided to cook hotdogs over the fire. Eric had finally left my mind all together, and Smii7y and I talked and talked like we did before, and it seemed like time didn't exist.

By time we regained our senses, it was already dinner and the fire was almost burnt out. Smii7y had a few calls and emails to send out, so I offered to make dinner inside while he sat outside. When it was done, I brought it outside and to my surprise the fire was back up and running, and Smii7y had pulled out marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers.

"Where did you get those?" I asked.

"I picked them up before I surprised you at Starbucks," he smiled. "And I almost forgot about them too."

We ate our dinner and smores while watching the sun set. When we were done eating, and the sun had finally faded, I realized how this day had been so simple yet so perfect with the man I love.

We cleaned everything up and put out the fire.

"I suppose I should get ready for bed," Smii7y said. His flight was later in the day, but we did have packing to do.

"Sleep with me tonight," I blurted out, surprising the both of us.

"Are you sure?" He asked with concern, but I assured him that I wanted to.

Things quickly got heated as we both lay in the same bed, but I shut him down before anything serious happened by suggesting we sleep.

He just smiled and turned out the light.

-

I screamed but no one heard me. Eric was standing over me. A police officer watching me casually like nothing was wrong. After he hit me again and again, the officer walked up to me.

"He's going to find you. You can't tell," he said.

I got up to run, but Eric chased me. It was only a few meters later that he grabbed my hair, sending me back...

-

I sat up in bed quickly, trying to forget the images from my nightmare, and also hoping I didn't wake Smii7y, but he sat up next to me.

Before he even had the chance to ask, I leaned in and kissed him hard, dragging him back into a sleeping position, and buried myself in his chest. He took the hint and said nothing, just playing with my hair and planting small kisses on my forehead.

I fell asleep quickly in his comfort, and my nightmare completely left my thoughts.
