The wheel of life

part 12

Walking through the hall was a bit awkward. Everyone was staring at me for some reason. I stopped for a second, someone was watching me. I turned around slowly. A face came running towards me.

 “Bella?” I said tilting my head.

 She ran up and hugged me,

 “OMG your up. I’ve missed you so much. I was just coming to see you but you’re not in your room. Did they move you?”

 We continued waking through the hall way towards the café.

 “No they didn’t move me I’ve been in Seth’s room for the past three days” 

“Oh, how is he? Is he ok?”

“Yeah he’s fine” I smiled “he woke up this morning”

“Really! Wow” the surprised look on Bella’s face said it all.

“So if he’s awake then why are you out here?” she asked me as we walked through the doors of the café.

“Well I haven't eaten properly since I’ve been here so I thought I should have something descent.”

We walked up to the counter. The lady there was short and chubby but seemed sweet.

“What would you like my dear?” she looked at me, her name tag reflected into my eyes.

“Just a sandwich please.” I pointed at the glass in front of 4 different rows of sandwiches. She picked one out and placed it on a tray for me.

“Would you like a drink?”

“Just water please, Oh would you like anything Bella?” I asked turning to face her.

“Ah, I’ll just have a juice box.”

Searching for a table wasn’t that hard considering it was breakfast time but we decided to go sit outside so I could finally feel the heat of the sun.

We sat facing each other as we always did at lunch when we were at school. It felt great to be outside again, especially with Bella.

We sat gossiping for about two hours before Bella realized that she had to go to work.

“oh crap, I better go. Do you want me to walk you back to Seths room?”

We both stood up grabbing our rubbish and headed to the bin.

“ah it’s alright I can walk back, anyway if you stay any longer you’ll be late for work”

Bella looked at me and gave me a hug,

“Ok, say hi to Seth for me”

“I will chicky”

Walking back through the corridor wasn’t as awkward as the first time but I did seem to forget where I was going at times. After about 5minites I finally found the main corridor where Seths room was. As I walked closer to his door I could see Mr. and Mrs. Payne talking to the doctor just outside his door. I smiled to myself and sped up but as I got closer I could see that Mrs. Payne was crying. I stopped and hesitated to continue, I decided to walk slowly.

But what if something has happened to Seth? I can’t just slowly walk there he could he dying. No the doctor said he was going to be fine so she must be crying in happiness.

I wasn’t sure what to think so I just waked a normal pace. I was about 7 meters away before Mrs. Payne noticed me. When she looked at me I could see sadness in her eyes, something was wrong.

My heat started to race, I sped up again. As I reached the window of Seths room I braced myself to see loads of doctors and nurses’ but no one was there. The doctor turned to look at me and smiled.

“What’s wrong, is Seth alright!” I grabbed the doctors’ arm.

“Everything’s fine” he said calmly taking my hand.

“But your crying” I turned to Mrs. Payne

There was no answer.

“Why don’t you go sit with Seth, and keep him company” Mr. Payne suggested turning me to the door and opening it.

I hesitated again but stepped in,

“Hey beautiful, where did you walk off to?” I closed the door behind me and sat on the bed next to Seth.

“I went to get breakfast and I ran into Bells, she says hi” he nodded

“I'm nodding my head right now.” I looked at him and smiled and shook my head. Sitting in silence for a few seconds just smiling at each other made time feel like it stopped completely. He started to giggle,

“What?” I asked

“Just your smile” I covered my face and moaned

“No…..” he pulled me closer towards him

“It’s cute.” I smiled as I took my hand away from my face and covered his. He licked my hand to try and make me take it away but it didn’t faze me. I finally took my hand away and laid next to him. We spent the rest of the day together. It felt like everything was back to normal but what I didn’t know was it was all going to change.

It was only until the middle of the night when I remembered what had happened earlier that day.

Why was Mrs. Payne crying, they never answered me.

Then I got me thinking again,

What if something is wrong? Well if they didn’t tell me then something must be wrong.

The thoughts ran round and round through my head, I started to cry. I tried to get up but Seth had his arm around me. I didn’t want to wake him but it was too late, he heard me crying.

“What’s wrong baby?” he asked sleepily

I contemplated weather to tell him or not, I wasn’t going to until I looked into his eyes and saw how worried he really was.

“Earlier today I saw your mum crying when she was talking to the doctor,” I sniffed.

“Oh. But why are you crying, you know I hate it when I see you cry.” he sat up slightly.

“I'm crying cos something’s wrong, why would your mum be crying if nothing was wrong?”

He looked at me with his deep brown eyes. They were soft and peaceful. He kissed me on the forehead.

“as long as I can still hold you tight, hear your voice, and look at the beauty in your face nothing will be wrong,”  he whispered softly in my ear.

We sat there in silence holding each other tightly as if it was going to be the last time we would ever see each other. I sighed,

“I love you,” I whispered.

“I love you too,” he whispered back as our lips touched for the first time since the accident.

The final tears rolled down my cheek as our lips embraced our love for each other. Soon after we both fell back asleep with him holding me tightly proving that he will never let me go…
