Grayson
"Ella," I call as soon as I'm done with my infamous spaghetti with meat balls. After dishing it out in two separate plates, I make my way to the living room. "Ella," I call again but there isn't any response so I walk further and my eyes settle on a sleeping Ella sprawled on the couch, her shirt riding up and giving a good view of her flat toned stomach.
She feels so peaceful while sleeping. Her angelic face reflecting the multicoloured lights coming from the television. She must've slept while waiting and watching the television because from what I can remember, she isn't good at waiting for anything, or anyone. She's an extremely impatient person.
But she waited for you. Day and night. And you weren't there for her. She waited for you, for you to come back, for you to love her again. But you never came.
My subconscious' words hit me like a truck and a pang of guilt rose in my heart.
I'm sorry, Ella. I was hurt. I was afraid of losing people I love. I was afraid of losing you too. That's why I distanced myself. That is exactly why I avoided you. I thought by staying away from you, I'll get over my feelings and then I'll stop loving you. Then I won't have to feel the pain of losing you. But guess what, I never stopped loving you. Never. I'm here now. And I'm not gonna leave this time.
I so want to voice these words. I so want to tell Ella the truth. I so want to spill my feelings to her. I wanna tell her how much I love her.
Ella shuffles on the couch that's when I kneel beside her, shaking her awake. She groans and swats my hand away. I smile as she mumbles some incoherent words and shifts on her stomach.
"Ella, wake up," I chuckle, "Food's ready." She slowly opens her eyes sitting up and takes in her surroundings. Her eyes settle on me followed by her flinching away from me as if I was about to hurt her.
Disappointment seeps in me and I walk away after telling her that food's ready and she can come eat with me.
She follows me to the kitchen counter where two plates are already resting with two glasses of orange juice I found in her refrigerator. She takes a seat across from me and quietly digs in her food. I follow her lead and start eating too after a sip of my orange juice. A moan escapes her lips causing me too almost choke on my food. Almost.
"It's amazing," she smiles genuinely looking me in the eyes. My lips curve upside as I feel a gush of pride fill me, "Why, thank you."
After finishing up my plate, I place it in the sink and return to my seat since Ella is still eating, tilting her head and holding her hair back with one hand. A smile crosses my face and unknowingly, I'm walking to her. I gently grab her hair in my hands and feel the soft smooth texture.
"What are you doing?" Ella's voice jerks me away from my trance. I look at my hands that are tying her hair in a braid, "Eat up. I'm tying your hair." I inch closer to her and inhale deeply, her vanilla scent filling my nostrils. I feel Ella's back stiffen so I lean in to whisper in her ear, "I missed you. I'm sorry for everything. God, I love you, Ella. I'll always do."
She relaxes a bit as I slide my arm around her waist and peck her cheek. But the moment is short lived because she goes back to her cold self.
"Don't," she speaks up, trying her best to sound strong but I know her better. I could feel all the pain in her voice. "I don't trust you. I don't feel for you. I never would. You crushed my feelings when you left me. Don't you think it's a tad bit late for apologising?" And with that, she stands up and walks away after putting her plate in the sink, leaving me hopeless. I look at her retrieving figure and determination gushes in me.
I won't give up on you, Ella. I won't give up on us. I promise.
