Starfall - Our last call

Rainy cafe

March 8th 3:45pm - Reese
"Zach, This is insane you can't do this!"
Zach stares at his coffee with a blank expression.
"I can, and I will, Reese."
I sigh and take a drink of my gingerbread hot chocolate, I have no idea how I'm supposed to convince him not to do this! Ive already said everything I can think of! He's never been this stubborn before.. I look around the cafe, it's busy kind of busy for a Sunday afternoon, the rain started to really pour outside, Usually this is Zachary's favourite thing, rainy cafe days, but he hasn't really been enjoying anything lately.. I sigh quietly. my eyes then lock on to someone, An anthropomorphic dragon with purple and yellow scales, yellow horns, green eyes, broad and tall with his massive wings, chunky tail and leather jacket, it's Crimson!
"Zach! Crimson is here!"
Zachary looks surprised and turns around then turns back to me
"Oh wow! It is! What's he doing here?"
"To drink coffee you hungover fuck, lets go say hi!" I say happily, Zach smiles and nods, we walk over to Crimson.
"Hey, Crimson!" Zach says, Crimson looks up at us he looks confused at first but then his face lights up.
"Oh my god! Guys it's been so long how have you been?" He says as he takes his earbuds out.
"Things have been good! However I broke up with Ivan broke up recently, he wasn't treating me right"
"Damn really? Ivan was a good friend of mine for a while, what did he do?"
"Basically he wanted me to change myself for him and shamed me for being too hyper, he was just a dick to me.."
"Jeez.. I'm sorry that happened.. Also! Zach! how are you and Milo doing?" He smiles. How does he not know about Milo!? Zachary looks away from crimson with a lot of pain in his eyes.
"..D-Did you guys break up..?"
I put a hand on Zach's shoulder but he shrugs it off looking pissed off for a moment.
"Do you want me to tell him?"
Zach sighs and nods.
Crimson gets a look of genuine fear in his eyes, which is kind of rare for him.
"G-Guys..?"
"Crimson, Milo died." I say bluntly.
Crimsons eyes widen then he stares at the ground.
"Wait.. What? There's no way, you've got to be joking!"
"He was murdered by a hunter plant in the greenhouse, he bled out."
Crimson doesn't say anything.
"Oh my god.. I can't believe this.. Fuck, Zach, I'm so sorry for your-"
"I don't want your sympathy, he won't be gone forever."
Oh great here we go. Crimson looks at Mochi, completely dumbfounded
"...W-What? Have you lost it..?"
As Zach's explaining how he found out about the star crater's resurrection magic, I feel myself starting to get angry. I try to keep it in, but I can't.
"you can't fucking do this!"
I snap.
They both look at me shocked
"He's gone Zach! I'm not letting you get yourself killed trying to bring him back, hell! If Milo knew you were doing this he would be pissed at you!"
Zachary glares at me.
"I'm doing this Reese, no one but myself can stop me from doing this."
There's an awkward silence, but Crimson breaks it.
"Zach, I'm sorry but I kind of agree with Reese.. Milo wouldn't want you risking your life for him."
...
"I'm going to the bathroom."
He says as he walks away.
I feel kind of bad now...
"Hey Reese? Why don't you sit with me?"
"Sure, I don't see why not."
I take my hot chocolate and Zach's coffee and set it on the table, I pull up a chair and sit across from Crimson.
"Reese, how long has this been going on for?"
"This literally just started."
"Wait! There's a chance Zach will out grow this right?"
"Crimson, you know him, he's not going to. Also, 'out grow?' Interesting choice of words it makes it sound like he's a kid."
"Hey! You know what I mean.. We thought he wouldn't outgrow that one thing but he did!"
I have no idea what thing he's talking about, but whatever it is that didn't last very long.
"Then he got back into it."
Crimson sighs and takes a drink of his tea.
"Reese, my point is there's a chance this crazy idea of his will be shut down by something, and then he will begin to finally move on, it's bound to happen, we just need to support him and get him back on his feet."
I wanna disagree, but I know he's right In a way.. I sigh and put my head in my hands.
"Yeah.."
I can't hold back how I feel anymore
"Fuck! Why did Milo have to get killed!?"
I rest my head on the table. Ive been trying to suppress my thoughts of him but it all came back and hit me all at once, I start crying, Crimson comes over and rubs my back.
"Do you wanna head back to your place for a bit? To just relax?"
I nod.
"I'll get Zach, then we'll go."
He walks away,
Why did it have to turn out like this!?Damn it all...
