After about 20 minutes, a large timer popped up onto the stage. Jaeden knew what it was right away— he'd seen too many live concert recordings. It counted down minutes until Brendon Urie came onstage.
At the moment when Jaeden glanced at the stage, the timer said '12:30.' Only twelve minutes? In all honestly, Jaeden could've pissed himself right then and there. "This is wild!"
Wyatt lightly laughed at the boy's excitement. "Oh, you think this is wild?" Wyatt paused. "Just wait until he comes onstage to sing!"
With everything happening around Jaeden, it felt like a surreal dream. He was standing next to a very cute boy, the hottest man alive was about to perform right in front of him, he was surrounded by thousands of other fans— he could barely process it!
"I've like, analyzed the set list." Jaeden told Wyatt, as his whole body continued to shake with excitement. "Coming to this show is my birthday present."
"That's cool," Wyatt replied with a smile. "when was your birthday?"
"It was yesterday, I turned 17." Jaeden shouted, considering he was in an extremely loud concert venue.
Wyatt nodded and gave Jaeden a thumbs-up. It was most likely due to the fact that what Jaeden told him was inaudible. The arena was louder than a Karen yelling at an innocent restaurant manager.
The countdown timer seemed like it was moving slower than a thousand sloths, in Jaeden's eyes. Every single time he cried in his car listening to The End of All Things, every single time he danced in his bedroom to One of The Drunks, every single time he was at a party listening to High Hopes— every single moment basically prepared him for this concert!
He wondered if Wyatt's experiences with the band were similar. Did he cry in his car to heavily auto tuned slow songs? Did he have dance parties with his stuffed animals in his bedroom to 2019 pop hits? Did he go to parties and hear the most mainstream song by the most unique band?
After all of Jaeden's silly thoughts, he realized that there was only one minute until Brendon Urie and came onstage. He looked next to him to see Wyatt, with his smile that lit up the whole arena. It was a weird feeling seeing him smile. It gave Jaeden at least a dozen butterflies.
Before he knew it, Jaeden was chanting along with the crowd a countdown. "10...9...8..." During his chanting, Jaeden was distracted by Wyatt. He chanted like he had just spoken for the first time. Jaeden noticed that his eyes lit up whenever he was passionate about something. It was, in a sense, quite mesmerizing.
When the crowd's chant reached 0, the lead singer of the band came out on stage. Jaeden, without knowing what he was doing, grabbed Wyatt's hand. He realized what he did a second later and began to panic.
It was alright though, because Wyatt squeezed Jaeden's hand and continued to hold onto it. Together, hand in hand, they sang along with the first song like it was their last chance to sing.
"Hey, who's having fun?" Brendon Urie asked the audience as his microphone faced the crowd.
"I AM LITERALLY GOING TO PISS MYSELF." Jaeden screamed and laughed manically. His senses were numb to pain and sadness— this had to be the best feeling in the world.
Songs continued to play, the hottest man alive continued to sing, and then Jaeden was caught by surprise. The intro to Collar Full started playing— Millie's favorite song! He turned to the curly haired boy next to him and said, "This is one of my best friend's favorites!"
"Hey," Wyatt cheerfully replied. "it's my favorite too!"
When the chorus struck, Jaeden and Wyatt were holding hands and jumping together. They didn't care if they looked stupid and they didn't care about embarrassing themselves.
"If you're gonna be the death of me, that's how I wanna go." The two boys sang that lyric while facing each other. Their eyes were locked and they didn't think twice about singing their hearts out.
When the song ended and there was a pause for the performer on stage to take a sip of water, Jaeden turned to Wyatt. "Oh God, I don't think I've ever had so much fun in my whole entire life."
"Ever?" Wyatt asked, sounding overly shocked. "Man, I'm gonna have to take you to some more concerts."
Jaeden didn't think much of what the boy said at first. Then, he realized that meant the pair would see each other again. In all honesty, Jaeden was most definitely not opposed to the idea.
"Okay," Jaeden had become nervous. He couldn't mess up whatever chance he had with this boy! "we should definitely do that!"
