Jaeden's eyes immediately widened. He turned to Millie as soon as he processed what he was seeing. "This is the guy from the concert! The cute one!" Jaeden whisper-shouted to his best friend beside him.
"Really? Damn, you were right!" Millie paused to laugh. "He is cute!"
Jaeden gave Millie a light smack on the arm. "Not the point," he rolled his eyes. "I didn't know I'd see him here!"
"Well, Mr. Oleff," Mr. Brown loudly said. "you can go take a seat next to Jaeden!"
Jaeden looked to the front, widening his eyes. He smiled at Wyatt even though his insides were turning into mush. "Funny seeing you here."
"Yeah," Wyatt whispered. "it's crazy that we're schoolmates now!"
"Hey! It's cool that we get to see each other every day! Makes it easier to plan for concerts." Jaeden smiled at Wyatt as he began taking notes.
Wyatt shyly smiled back and the two remained quiet. They wanted to focus and take notes. However, Jaeden's mind continued to wander. Why did Wyatt transfer schools halfway through the school year? It was quite odd.
Jaeden wasn't the only boy whose mind wandered. Wyatt had so many questions. How did he get so lucky to end up at a new school with a boy he'd met at a concert? What were the odds they'd be in the same class? It was absolute madness.
Out of nowhere, Jaeden's phone loudly buzzed. He pulled it out of his pocket to see what was happening and it was a text from Wyatt.

wyatt: kinda crazy how we're in the same class

jaeden: i know right!! btw we should definitely hang out after school

wyatt: yeah, sure. we could go to the diner

jaeden: nice!! i'll drive

While Wyatt attempted to type a reply, Mr. Brown took Wyatt's phone out of his hands. "I understand you're new, but we have a strict no phones policy."
"Sorry," Wyatt shrugged with a slight chuckle. "Didn't know."
Jaeden's eyes widened. Did he really just reply to a teacher like that? This kid was no pussy.
"Anyways, we can meet by the back door later." Jaeden whispered to Wyatt. In response, Wyatt gave Jaeden a thumbs up and a smile. They both laughed.
As Millie tried to focus on class, she rolled her eyes at the two immature boys beside her. At the same time, she was laughing internally.
For the rest of class, everybody sat in silence. It was boring without a phone to peek at under their desks. Finally, the bell rang and Wyatt could go retrieve his phone from Mr. Brown. As a new kid, he was not off to a good start.
Jaeden and Wyatt left the room together. Their next classes were coincidentally close to each other so they walked together.
"Okay, Oleff." Jaeden began. "Why'd you move here so late in the year?"
"If we're being honest here, I got kicked out of my old school." Wyatt replied with a shrug and a half smile. "It was the private school fifteen minutes away. Greenbrier."
"No way!" Jaeden was beyond surprised. "You went to Greenbrier?" Not only was Greenbrier super hard to get into academically, but the tuition per year was off the charts. It was close to the average college tuition, if not more.
"Don't act so surprised, dude!" Wyatt replied calmly. "I had a scholarship since I played basketball."
"Then how'd you get kicked out?" Jaeden asked curiously. It really wasn't his place to ask but he felt as if Wyatt would tell him.
"I'll tell you after school, but the bell is about to ring and I don't wanna make another bad impression." Wyatt said, disappearing into the nearby classroom, as he did a little salute with his fingers.
"Man, if only I went to Greenbrier!" Jaeden muttered to himself. "Wouldn't that be something?"

By the end of the day, Jaeden was bored out of his mind. All he wanted to do was go to the diner with Wyatt. He could also drive him around town and show him where everything cool is.
Due to the old age of his fourth block teacher, Jaeden decided to pull out his phone and send Wyatt a text. His teacher couldn't see more than three feet away from him if his life depended on it.

jaeden: back door right?

wyatt: yessir!

jaeden: wat class r u in rn

wyatt: algebra 2

jaeden: ah, so you're either a junior too like me or a really smart sophomore?

wyatt: i'm a junior, but just barely. i have a summer bday

jaeden: nice. anyways i'll see u soon bc the bell will ring soon

For the last ten minutes of class, Jaeden stared at the clock on his teacher's wall. It's not like choir wasn't a fun class, but his old ass teacher dulled it down a little bit.
As the smaller hand on the clock began to reach the 12, Jaeden counted down to himself in a hushed tone. "5, 4, 3, 2..."
Right as the sound of the first ring struck his eardrums, he was already one foot out the door. He had never been so eager to leave school in his life, and that was saying something.
Surprisingly, Wyatt had beat him to the back door. "Damn, you're speedy, aren't you?"
Wyatt chuckled. "I guess I am." He replied with a shrug. "Anyways, where'd you park your car?"
Jaeden pointed to his usual spot. "I like to park it somewhat towards the middle of the parking lot so I don't have to walk too far."
"You're a silly goose, Jae." Wyatt told him as he opened the door. The nickname that usually only his best friends called him took Jaeden by surprise. At the same time, he kind of liked it.
