"I guess so!" Jaeden replied with a laugh as he played with his car keys in his right hand. It didn't take long for the two to make it to the car.
"I love this car." Wyatt told Jaeden with an impressed gasp. "It has some kind of vintage cool-ness to it."
"It's fucking old, that's what it is." Jaeden sarcastically said with an eye roll. "But I love it nonetheless."
"I know this sounds cocky and a little bit rude, but trust me it isn't how I mean it!" Wyatt paused before he got to the point. "I kinda wish I had an old car like this."
"I mean, it has its charm." Jaeden replied with a sigh as he dug the key into the ignition. "I can see why you like it."
"Yeah," Wyatt muttered. "Anyways, I never told you why I got kicked out of my old school!"
"Oh yeah, I'm intrigued so do tell." Jaeden responded as he kept his eyes fixated on the road in front of him.
"Okay, so you know how it's like a Christian-based school, right?" Wyatt asked, as if Jaeden already knew the answer.
"Yeah, go on." Jaeden assured with a nod. He really did want to hear the rest of Wyatt's story.
"So, they don't like gay people and I'm, you know..." To show what he meant, Wyatt flicked his wrist.
"You're gay?" Jaeden questioned in utter disbelief. I mean, he kind of saw this coming. They met at a Panic! at the Disco concert so...
"Yeah, anyways..." Wyatt trailed off. "They saw me kissing my, now ex-boyfriend, behind the school and they were like 'ew' so they kicked me out."
"That's it? That's a horrible reason to kick a kid out of school." Jaeden admitted. "Like, isn't God supposed to love everyone?"
"Literally! That's what I said and they were like 'we're still gonna kick you out' and then I just left." Wyatt concluded. "My parents didn't really care so I mean, it is what it is."
"Period." Jaeden said with a hint of shock in his voice. "Sorry, all I've been saying for the past couple of months is period and I don't know why."
"I mean," Wyatt paused. "period." The awkward silence after Wyatt spoke was enough to throw the two boys into a full-on laughing session. Of course, a controlled one, considering Jaeden had to keep his eyes on the road ahead of him.
Soon enough, they reached the diner. "Have you ever been here before?" Jaeden questioned.
"Nope, but my friends from my old school have." Wyatt explained as he held open the door for Jaeden.
With a slight laugh, Jaeden whisper-spoke, "How gentlemanly!"
The two boys picked a booth towards the front of the restaurant with yellow cushioned seats. The diner had to be Jaeden's favorite spot in town.
"Hi!" A kind looking lady with brown hair walked up to the boys' table. "My name is Natalia and I'll be your server today! Can I start you off with any drinks?"
"What's good here?" Wyatt whispered to Jaeden. He'd never been to the diner before so he didn't know if they had any specialty drinks or anything.
"Well, whenever I come here with my friend Millie, we always split an order of loaded curly fries and a chocolate milkshake." Jaeden told Wyatt as he pointed it out on the menu.
"Since we know what we want, can we just order food and skip drinks?" Wyatt politely asked the waitress.
"Yeah, that'd be fine, hun." The waitress affirmed. "What would you guys like?" She asked that question as if she hadn't just heard Jaeden loudly pointing out what he liked off of the menu.
"Loaded curly fries and one chocolate milkshake," Jaeden took a pause and glanced over at Wyatt. "with two straws."
Natalia, the waitress, nodded and walked away with her notepad which held their order. "So," Wyatt said with a smirk. "we're sharing a milkshake."
All that Jaeden could blurt out was a meek sounding, "Yeah."
"You sound so shy." Wyatt acknowledged as he carefully studied Jaeden's face. "And you look about as red as my grandma's favorite church shoes."
"I've just only ever shared a milkshake with Millie before so," Jaeden admitted with a shrug. "it's new I guess."
It wasn't sharing a milkshake with a new friend that was making Jaeden nervous. It was the fact that Wyatt was more like a new crush. New boyfriend possibly? If things went well, of course.
