Come Rain or Shine

Well begun is half done

It is indeed a quiet ride. The last time Mina saw Chaeyoung was nearly 15 years ago. They didn't contact each other after. It was an utter fate that she could meet Chaeyoung again here in Seattle, the very last place she could think about.

"Mina, I am starving, could we make a stop to a diner near Capitol Hill? My treat. We have lots to catch up as well, right?"

Lots to catch up, for God's sake, really?

Mina takes a deep sigh.

Mina wanted to pass the chance but instead, "Okay, sure" Her heart and her way of saying this, always not in sync

"Yes, thank you!"

They go for the ride to the Capitol Hill. The ride remained quiet. It's been 15 years since the last time they faced each other. Mina has lots of puzzles in her mind, perhaps Chaeyoung too. It will open all the scars, and both decided not to speak their mind.

Maybe.

They arrive at the diner 15 minutes later. It isn't that far.

"I will have waffles, please put abundant whipped cream on top. And a strawberry shake"

Mina chuckles.

"What are you? A 10-year-old kid with breakfast food?"

"Hey, you can eat waffles at any time you want, no one ever tells me that waffle is a breakfast food"

The servant just giggled.

"Okay okay. I'll have chocolate milkshake"

The lady servant takes notes.

"So, what are you really doing here in Seattle, Mina? It isn't Christmas yet"

"I am transferring my daughter to a boarding school here"

"Wow, how old is she?"

"12 this year"

"Which boarding school?"

"Forest Ridge"

"Wow, great school. They have a good program in the arts as well! Is she interested in music? My friend is a music teacher there"

"Oh really? Yeah, she plays piano and violin. Her father wanted her to pick one instrument but she ended up learning two"

"So cool. Just like the mother when she came to Korea alone to study right?"

"Yeah, except she's much younger than me, much braver, but my parents also live with her here, so yeah. It's good for her. She's so thrilled to start school here"

"You're so cool, if I ever have kid, I think I can't do that"

Mina only smiled. If only she knows that she didn't want this to occur as well.

"So, how.......how about you? Single?"

Chaeyoung shook her head.

"Divorce"

Mina then looked at her eyes, shocked to hear the news.

"I am sorry"

"Oh don't be. It was an arranged marriage anyway, no need to be sorry. You know me, I am not into men. But of course, being a lesbian is such a shame to our family, so yeah my dearest Father set me up to another heir" Chaeyoung said it while laughing bitterly.

Unlike Mina who identifies herself as a bisexual, Chaeyoung always said to Mina that she's a 100% lesbian.

Mina doesn't want to extend the topic. It might hurt the latter.
