Third person POV-

~2 weeks later~

It had now been 2 weeks and Elizabeth had recovered nicely, which meant that Meliodas had to hold up his part of the promise and spar with her.
He had to admit she was good, not good enough to beat him, but good. That's why it algae become a bit of a daily routine.

"I'll clean up here, can you go wait in my office?" Meliodas said already picking up the completely massacred dummies, that they had used that day. More as a kind if training than sparring.

"Sure!" Elizabeth said, put her wooden sword in the barrel with the others and left for his office.

Elizabeth skipped through the halls of the demon realm's castle like it was the halls she had walked through her entire life.

"Hmmm, storage, storage, conference, balcony...office!!" Elizabeth chanted the use of every room until she came to the doors that would lead her to Meliodas's office.
She had never actually been in there, she had only had it pointed out to her by meliodas a couple of times while walking by.

"Hmmm..." Elizabeth hummed as she walked into the office. There was a lot of red, black and brown. But then again what did she expect?
She stood in the middle of the room looking around her.

'Oh? What's this?' Elizabeth thought as she looked at a table filled with picture frames.
She trussed over and leaned down to have a good look.

There was a picture of Meliodas, his nieces and Arthur, a picture with him and his brother, and an old family picture of a considerably younger Meliodas, a toddler Zeldris, a beautiful woman with silky raven hair..'probably their mother' she thought, and a man, who's face had been ripped off of the picture itself. 'Must be their father' Elizabeth thought sadly, sad that Meliodas and his brother had to go through such a horrible childhood due to that man.

Elizabeth looked over each picture frame, the rest of which included people she didn't have a chance of guessing who was.

But then Elizabeth noticed a picture frame not only pushed to the side, but it was also laying down hiding whatever picture was inside of it.

Thinking that it had perhaps fallen over she lifted it up.

Elizabeth stared at the picture in the frame for what felt like years.
'It's me...but still not. The face is identical to me, but the hair and...is that wings? A goddess?!'
Elizabeth was shaking. Next to the her...doppelganger in the picture was Meliodas..he wore different clothes and he didn't  smile...and yet he looked content.
"Is this some kind of joke?"

"What's a joke?" Meliodas said as he just so happened to walk into the room at that very moment.
Elizabeth decided not to waste time and so she went straight to it.
"This Meliodas! What is this?! Who is this?!" Elizabeth said accusingly as she held up the picture for Meliodas to see.

When Meliodas recognized the picture in the frame his eyes widened in horror.
Instead of saying anything he snatched the picture from Elizabeth's hands and managed to quickly put it in one if his drawers.
"It's not important Elizabeth. Please just forget you ever saw it" he saw with a fake grin.
But it would take much more for Elizabeth to simple drop it.

"Not important?! Forget I saw it?! No!! Meliodas who was that? And why did she look like me?"

"Elizabeth please...I can't.."

"Listen I understand you have secrets, and in most circumstances I would respect, but not only did that woman look like me but you're so secretive about it! If you had just said that she...i dunno, happened to by my ancestors, that would be that! But with the way you're acting I can tell that this is something big"

"Listen..yeah I know, and yes you do deserve to know. But if you make me tell you, you will regret it"

"I don't care" she says firmly and took a step close to him.
"Tell me"

Meliodas spent a few moments looking into her eyes to find confirmation.
When he found it he sighed deeply and reached behind him to open the drawer he had just put the picture frame into.
When he took it out he stated at it for a while as he ran a thumb over the goddess in the picture.
Then he looked back up at Elizabeth.
"You asked me who she was...her name was Elizabeth of the goddess clan..she was my lover 300 years ago"

Elizabeth gasped.
They shared the same name?
Also...Meliodas had never told her about a previous lover...

"But she died....my father killed her...that's why I killed him. To avenge her.."

Elizabeth had no idea what to say.
She could see the sorrow in his eyes and she wanted to comfort him, but she chose to stay quiet and let him continue.

"I grew depressed and so the demon clan grew reserved...I thought I'd lost everything...but then I went to liones...and I saw you"

"M-..me?"

"Yes, you...every instinct in my body told me that you were Elizabeth..my Elizabeth...that you had reincarnated..from being the princess of the goddess clan, to the queen of liones..."

Elizabeth felt dizzy and Meliodas saw that so he quickly led her to the couch where they both then sat down.
Meliodas couldn't look at her, so he folded his hands in his lap and focused his gaze solely on that.

"That explains..so much.."

"You don't doubt me?"

"Well no...I can't really. That-" she pointed to the picture in the frame "is proof, but it also answers the question I've asked myself for so long. "How did I fall for him so hard, so fast?"...because I never stopped loving you..from my last life till now..."

"...yeah..I'm-" Meliodas's cut himself off as he finally looked up at Elizabeth.
'Tears?!'
Meliodas frowned sadly and reached up to wipe her tears away.

"Sorry this is just...it's so much to take in..."

"No don't apologize, I think you're handling it really well. But I understand if you need a little time to process it" Meliodas said softly and kissed Elizabeth's cheek.

"Is...is it okay if I-.."

"If you go?"

"Yeah...I think I just need a little time"

"I completely understand. Do you...want me to escort yuh to your room or something?" Meliodas asked, standing up at the same time that she did.

"No thank you. I'll be fine" Elizabeth said quietly and wrapped her arms around herself.
And with that she quickly left the room, leaving Meliodas to wonder if he should've tried to stand his ground and refuse to answer her questions.

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Elizabeth leaned against the door as she closed it behind her and clutched her heart to try and stop the rapid beating.
It didn't feel like a panic attack, but it didn't feel like excitement either.

'I'm a goddess..no! I was a goddess. Meliodas's lover! I was Meliodas's lover 300 years ago! That's why...why I felt such an instant connection...'

Elizabeth slowly slid down to sit on the ground.
She brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them.
'What does this mean for me?...for us?'

Elizabeth slowly brought one of her hands up to her bangs.
She remembered when she had been in Meliodas's room and he was helping her do her hair.
'He brushed my bangs away so they covered my entire forehead...like they apparently did in my past life...'

Then Elizabeth's eyes widened a bit and she got up and walked over to see her reflection in the mirror in her room.
He'd eyes were fixated on her face as she brushed the hair aside.
Sure enough, the symbol present in her orange eye...her left eye was the same as the symbol that has been in both eyes of the goddess that was apparently her previous life.
She hadn't doubted it, but now there was no place left for denial either...
