The hours following the battle against the Night King were quiet. No one celebrated, everyone just searched. Searched for their loved ones and hoped that they had survived.
Shadow had bound out of the crypts to my side, licking my face and sniffing my body for any wounds.
Arya, Theon and I quickly found Sansa and Jon, we needed to make sure they were still alive. Not knowing if we had all made it or not was the worst feeling i had ever experienced.
After finding Daenerys holding a cold Jorah Mormont in his arms, we had all decided that a funeral was needed before anything else could be done.
It took us hours to collect all the bodies. Lyanna and Jorah Mormons, Edd Tollett, and Beric Dondarrian. All were allies, friends, brothers, protectors. It was a shame to lose people like them.
Once all the bodies in Winterfell were gathered on the funeral pyres, people were given a chance to say once last goodbye. Gendry was not among the bodies we had collected, but i still had yet to find him.
I watched as Daenerys sobbed over Jorah's body, a man who was with her from the beginning.
I held Sansa's hand with Shadow standing at my side, as we waited for the Dragon Queen to join us in the line.
Jon stepped forward, " We're here to say goodbye to our brothers and sisters. To our fathers and mothers. To our friends. Our fellow men and women who set aside their differences to fight together and die together so that others might live. Everyone in this world owes them a debt that can never be repaid." His voice cracking and wavering as he spoke, "It is our duty and our honor to keep them alive in memory for those who come after us and those who come after them for as long as men draw breath. They were the shields that guarded the realms of men. And we shall never see their like again."
Torched were brought forward to Jon, Sansa, Arya, Daenerys,Grey Worm, Sam, Tormund, Theon and I.
We all walked to the pyres, Jon went to Edd's, Arya went to Beric's, Theon went to his Ironborns', Daenerys went to Jorah's, I went to Lyanna's. She was the bravest of us all, took down a giant all by herself. Sacrificed herself for us all.
All at once we lowered the torches into the bottom of the pyres and lit the straw on fire. Giving these people who gave their lives for everyone a proper goodbye.
Once the pyres were blazing, we all turned and walked back to the line and watched as the pyres burned the bodies of the fallen, black smoke filled the sky.
Hours had passed as Sansa and I had gotten the celebration feast ready. We busted out every bottle and barrel we could find, and the most meat we could prepare in the couple hours after the funeral. Just before the feast was to start, we had gone to her chambers and gotten ourselves ready in our dresses and pinned each other;s hair.
Once everyone had sat down and began eating, i looked around the room. Searching for Gendry in the crowd, i was positive that we had not found his body among the dead, so he had to be around here somewhere.
