✞Jade✞The smell of alcohol swabs and overly clean sheets woke me up.
Shit
I shot up in bed, the IV in my arm tugged and I hissed in discomfort. Everything was blurry. I didn't feel anyone else in the room and that calmed me down a bit.
It was a good thing no one was here to see me half blind trying to comprehend what the hell I was doing here. The blur cleared out and my hearing rushed at me.
Frantic beeping matched the pace of my heart and my head swiveled around in panic.
Where am I?
I breathed in as the machine grew increasingly louder and more annoying. My heart rate slowed down. The bright light reflected off of the ceiling and I had to squint. My head was pounding.
I attempted to get put of the bed but as soon as I moved my leg was pulled back. I squeaked and spun around, twisting the sheets up in the process. My foot was restrained. I was stuck.
PRESS BUTTON FOR NURSE OR ASSISTANCE
My eyes zeroed in on the sign and I reached over. The restraint tugged on my leg and I grunted. My finger tips brushed against the button, I groaned and huffed. I took in a deep breath and lunged for the button. The restraint pulled at my leg painfully, but my fingers pushed the button in.
I messaged my ankle as I waited for the nurse. She bonded in the room smiling brightly. Her teeth tinted slightly yellow against the white walls. She was pretty, but fat. Her cheeks were rounded and rosy. Her thighs touched slightly. They were too close in my mind. She was average, maybe even skinny. But she wasn't bones.
"How're ya' doin' sweetie?" She smiled and looked down at me. I didn't answer. I just stared. Her smile faltered slightly, she raised her eyebrows and blinked.
I realized I was supposed to talk. I called her in here to talk.
"What am I doing here." I blurted out.
She smiled and turned her back to grab a clipboard I happened to miss that had been hanging on the wall.
"Well Jade. It seems you passed out from, malnourishment and low blood pressure. You are very underweight, did you know that?" She said sweetly. I started at her dumbly. The heart monitor beeped, steadily.
She nodded to herself and put the clipboard back.
"A Doctor will be with you shortly, I'll go tell him you're awake." She rushed out.
That was no help at all.
I waited for ten minutes. There was no TV, I couldn't find my phone and there was no clock. The thick blinds blocked the window and I couldn't tell what time of day it was.
The door cracked open and a balding man poked his head in. He smiled warmly when our eyes connected. I immediately felt calmer. Yet still nervous.
"Hello Jade, how are you feeling right now?" His aging eyes smiled at me. The laugh lines in his forehead smiled also.
"Confused." I answered. He nodded and scribbled something down.
"Do you know why you're here?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.
"I passed out?" I felt dumb.
"Yes, do you know why?"
"No." I replied reluctantly.
"Have you been restricting eating? Exercising excessively or purging food that you eat?" He flung the questions at me. I blinked. My mind flung answers back, but my body looked down and shrugged. I could feel his sad smile. I wanted to punch someone.
