Kade {Chapter Eight}

"Rise and shine!"

I groaned and curled up under the covers more.

"C'mon Jade! Let's go meet the rest of the kids!" The nurses voice came from the other side of the room.

I sighed and dragged myself out of the warm bed. My scrubs were still on and the padded green socks stuck to the floor.

I looked at the name tag of the nurse.

"Some privacy, Phil?" I rolled my eyes. He smiled and shut the heavy door. The blinding white walls made me squint. My blankets and I were the only non white things here. I'd have to see if I could hang something up on the walls. Make my stay here more homey..

I walked into the bathroom and grimaced at the green tiles. They had givin' me some essentials. Toothbrush, blankets, extra scrubs, soap, toothpaste, and even deodorant. The roll-on kind.

I stepped out onto the carpet of the hallway. There were about five different doors on each side of the hallway. Bedrooms.

The smell of food filled my nose. I cringed. Chatter reached my ears and I crept toward the noise.

A desk came into a view and two nurses looked up at me and smiled, they gestured to an open room.

I hung by the entrance. Phil spotted me and got up from his chair. From what I could see there was a T.V, two couches and a few chairs on one side of the room. There was a door labeled KITCHEN beside the T.V. On the other side of the room, where I was standing was a large table and a grey door. The windows were sealed shut but light filtered in from the outside. It was bright.

At the table were four girls, three of which were playing a game that looked like scrabble. The other girl was eating, watching something on the T.V. I followed her gaze and saw the backs of two boys playing a Wii game. Mario Cart.

This was too normal. Why weren't we put in straight jackets? Where were the white coats? Where were the crazy insane patients screaming?

Nowhere.

One of the girls playing scrabble looked up and smiled.

"Wanna come play?" She asked. She was oldest by far. The rest of the group turned toward me and smiled. They all waved and smiled.

"I'm Alora." The oldest one said. Her brown eyes were dull but her face shone with kindness. She put her frizzy brown hair into a bun and smiled at me, returning to her game.

"I'm Esmeralda" The girl next to her said, she had a tinged accent. I smiled.

The girl across from them waved and whispered a name I barely caught.

"Tyler." She was wearing a panda hat and was hunched over her pieces, concentrating... Interesting name. I'd never heard Tyler for a girl. I liked it.

The two guys called their names over their shoulders, yelling at the game shortly after.

"Cooper"
and
"Austen"

The girl eating swallowed and smiled at me.

"Ellie" She licked her lips and I noticed a tongue piercing, I smiled back.

A tray was handed to me and I numbly took it. I decided to sit beside Ellie.

She smiled and turned toward me. Her eyes widened at something and I looked down. My eyes also widened.

The protein shake was the first thing I saw. Then I saw the full plate of food. Compared to Ellie's food mine looked like a fucking mountain. Fuck.

"They'll make you eat most of it." She said nodding at my food.

Phil came and sat across from me and explained some rules with the help of Ellie.

:RULES:
Shower Everyday.
Always Wear Something On Your Feet.
Visiting Time Lasted 30 Minutes, I Couldn't Leave Hospital Grounds.
We Were Allowed To Wear Outside Clothes.
We Had To Wash Our Own Clothes, The Laundry Room was At The End Of The Hall.
I Had To Finish All My Food.
No One Could Touch Each-other, Ask Why/Tell Anyone Why We Were Here
No Personal Information Will Be Shared.
We Will Not Use Trigger Words.
If We Needed Something, We Could Talk To Either A Therapist Or A Nurse.
Calls To The Outside Lasted 10 Minutes, And We Had To Ask First.
We Were Allowed Electronics That Had No Cameras And No Access To the Outside World. E-Books Were OK.
During Quiet Time We Had To Stay In Our Rooms.
During Activities You Had To Do Something.
You Can Trust The Staff.

I nodded and attempted to memorize the rules, Ellie laughed and told me they discussed the rules everyday during Group Meeting.

I was relieved.

Ellie got here three days ago.

"It's like a break from reality, we get two to three more people everyday. By the end of the day you might even get a roommate." She said happily. I smiled and took another disgusting bite of fatty calories.

It was quiet time and my Mother arrived with a paper bag. I wondered what was in it. I opened the bag and squealed with joy. It was clothes. Makeup, underwear, skinny jeans , pajamas....CLOTHES! No more itchy green scrubs!
I couldn't help myself, I gave my Mother a hug.

She didn't hug back.

I didn't see Kacie. My mood went from Yay to Shit.

My mom signed in and took me outside to the coffee shop that was downstairs.

Still on 'Hospital Grounds'. She didn't speak as we walked to the elevator.

She cleared her throat and I snapped out of my daydream. We had somehow managed to appear at the coffee shop. I wanted to buy everything but I didn't need the extra calories. I was already fucking bloated and about to puke.

I looked up and a smile spread a cross my face. Kacie sat at a table sipping on a drink, tapping her leg. She looked around and spotted me. She was up and in my arms in a flash.

She attacked me with a million questions. I laughed and answered honestly. I told her about the ridiculous rules and how Phil woke me up. I told her how I beat Austen at Mario Cart and my new friend was Ellie.

"You already look better!" She remarked. This made me sad.

I wanted to be deadly. no you need to be healthy

Something.

Something in Kacies face made those thoughts vanish.

She was happy, that I was 'getting better'.

Something inside me ignited. Motivation.

If it made Kacie happy.

It was worth it.

I'll fucking get better.
