Starlight engulfed his vision.
All Calum could see was an endless array of stars and constellations and the inky darkness that swirled inbetween.
He looked over at the girl next to him, intently staring at the stars, a look of wonder on her face.
She didn't seem to age, she was still as immaculate as the first time he had seen her all those years ago.
Her hair fanned around her head in lazy waves, tangling with the grass underneath her.
'You're not even paying attention to the stars,' she whispered. Her voice sounded melodic to his ears as it broke the peaceful silence.
'I'm paying attention to something much better,' Calum replied.
She scoffed in reply and turned onto her side so she faced him.
'You look so grownup all of a sudden, Calum.'
Calum sighed and shook his head.
'And yet you remain unchanged,' he whispered.
'That's because,' she whispered in a sad voice, 'I'm not actually here.'
He looked at her in confusion.
'What do you mean?' Calum asked quietly, almost afraid to raise his voice and disrupt the silence.
'I'm not actually here, because I'm really all up in here,' she whispered as she pointed at Calum's head.
Calum's eyes slowly opened.
For a moment he didn't move, remaining completely still as his body woke up.
He was starting to dream of the girl more often, this was the third time in the last week.
Calum sat up and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.
He couldn't get the image of the still unnamed girl bathed in starlight. She was, in fact, beautiful. Now that he was old enough to understand it, he realised that she was the most beautiful, gorgeous human being he had ever seen in his sixteen years.
Calum kept telling himself that someone that mesmerising couldn't be real.
Recurring dreams about someone he had never met before couldn't be a good thing.
