Calum couldn't get the thought of Abby out of his head.
It almost got to the point where he thought he'd start dreaming about her.
But no, no that wasn't going to happen. That problem was long ago taken care of.
--
Calum had reverted back to his old habits. Every day he would walk past the field in high hopes of seeing Abby. But each day his expectations would become lower and lower as every day, without fail, Abby wouldn't show.
His life seemed to be stuck in some sort of repetitive cycle.
For a while, he'd have Abby and everything seemed to be suspended in a slow, dreamlike state. Then she'd be gone, taking all the light in Calum's life with her. Then she would come back, only to leave again.
Calum had started to believe that Abby was in fact a figment of his imagination.
After she stopped visiting him in his dreams, maybe he had become so desperate for any form of contact with her that he had just started to pretend she was there.
The words 'obsessed' and 'dependant' in Luke's voice were staring to become a mantra in Calum's head.
--
It was probably about two weeks since Abby walked out of the coffee shop that Calum realised that he hadn't told anyone about actually meeting her.
It was when he was having dinner at Luke's house that it finally came up.
'Hey Luke, remember how you kicked me out after I stayed at your house after Ashton's party?'
Luke looked up from his spaghetti and frowned at Calum, but Calum cut him off before he could say anything.
'Yeah well, do you also remember that girl that I always seemed to have dreams about when I was younger? Well it turns out she's real and I met her,' Calum grinned at Luke, who only furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and mild concern.
'So like I talked to her and everything and I took her out for coffee and she prefers mochas to regular coffee and-'
'Calum,' Luke cut him off, his tone of voice leaving no room for argument.
'....yes?' Calum asked carefully, suddenly unsure of himself.
'I... I never kicked you out that day? You slept in until the middle of the afternoon then just left without saying anything-'
'You're fucking with me.'
Luke grimaced at Calum, making an uncomfortable noise at the back of his throat.
'Fuck.'
Calum's voice echoed uncomfortably in Luke's kitchen. Luke stayed silent.
'Fuck. Fuck I.... I imagined it?' Calum gasped, pushing away from Luke, his fork clattered to the floor.
'Calum its-'
'I'm not going crazy am I?' Calum whispered.
Luke put his bowl down with shaking hands. He tentatively walked over to Calum and hugged him.
Calum slowly bought his arms up and hugged him back and buried his face into Luke's shoulder.
'I don't know Calum, I really don't know,' Luke whispered hoarsely.
Calum hugged him tighter.
