*7 years later*

Niall changed and realized he didn't need a love life to have a future.

He picked up the pieces of his shattered heart and slowly but carefully, threw them away. Harry was now 10 and had grown up rather quickly.

Niall and Harry bonded over the past 7 years yet strangely enough, Harry hadn't asked where his mother was. Niall knew one day Harry was gonna ask and all he could do was be ready for when it happened.

*Niall's POV*

"I need to go pick up Harry from school, cover for me?" I asked Zayn. Zayn and I have been best friends since we met, the same night ... She left.

I told myself I would never say her name again, as saying it brings back too many memories.

"Yeah, I got your back. But, as a reward for covering for you, I get to see my baby, Harry, today after work." Zayn compromised.

"Yeah, I guess so. Listen, I really have to go. Thanks again Zaynie." I sighed. He gave a cheeky grin and blew a kiss in my direction. I smiled and pretending to catch it and place it into my pocket.

I left the restaurant and hastily climbed inside my car.

And, before you ask, me and Zayn are not together. We just have a really weird way of showing our affection to each other. Okay so.. I do like Zayn. Like.. Like, like but my infatuation do  Zayn would have to wait until I knew Harry would be okay. Speaking of Harry, I'm going to be late picking him up.

Since I was late, I knew the car pool lane would be excruciatingly long so I decided to give Harry a call. Maybe he can meet me half way?

I typed his number while continuously tapping my foot against the gas pedal, easing my way up.

"Hello?" Whispered a small voice.

"Hey Harry, I'm here but-"

"Your here? Where? I can't see you."

"I'm definitely here I'm just at the very back because I left work a little late. Could you possibly walk up and meet me halfway, babe?"

I heard him chuckle on the other end.

"Yeah daddy, I'll meet you halfway."

"Thanks buddy, I love you."

"I love you too." I could hear his grin as he ended the call. I pulled over onto the side of the road and waited for Harry. When I saw him approaching, I turned the key in the ignition to start the car back up.

Once Harry had arrived at the vehicle, he jumped into the passenger seat and buckled his seat belt.

"How was school, babe?"

"Good." He said whilst fidgeting in his seat a little.

"Learn anything new?"

"Nope."

"Meet any new friends?"

"Not the ones I haven't seen yet."

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah."

Something or someone had upset my son, he only gave short and snappy replies when something was wrong, but what could've happened in that short period of time? He was perfectly alright when I spoke to him over the phone.

"Well.. Guess what?" I asked, trying to change the subject so as not to upset him further.

"What?"
