"Opening Night"

Quick authors note: the song is actually Sunkissed by khai dreams so don't come for me. This will make sense by the end of the chapter :)

It was finally time for opening night. I was with Raf rehearsing lines and choreography in his room. "No left and then right like this." I started as we both did it. He got it down and as we started the next part when Mom was looking at us in the doorway.

"What are you doing?" She asked leaning against the door frame.

"Practicing for tonight. You're still coming right?" I asked looking at her.

"I actually might not be able to." She answered as Raf and I both stopped.

"Mom this is important to me. To both of us." I added looking at her upset. A parent supported their kids.

"And my job is important too." She answered. Raf scoffed. "What?"

"You're not gonna go to work, you're gonna go to the bar." He answered. "Instead of supporting your two children who are really passionate and proud about tonight." He backed up as I watched him surprised.

"What's gotten into you Rafael? I'd expect this from Sapphire but-"

"Leave her alone Mom. She hasn't even said anything and you're trying to make her feel like crap." He defended me and I smiled lightly. "You know what, I'm sick of it okay. You need to get it together Mom. Stop wasting all your money on booze and be an adult for once." He spat.

She looked at him absolutely shocked.

"I'm only 17 and I'm missing out on being a kid because of you and I'm also missing out on a Mom who used to be gentle and caring. I want that Mom back." He commented. She looked at him and shook her head before heading out of the room.

"Damn Raf." I took a breath as he turned to me.

"She needed to hear it." He answered as I nodded.

"Well I need to get to the school to do some last minute set design stuff. Do you wanna come?" I asked as he nodded. Sadly a lot of the design got messed up with the fire and I was supposed to meet a few people to finish working on what was left.

I went in my room and grabbed the essentials and then went for a little wrapped box on my nightstand. It was a gift for Ricky, assuming everything went well. I figured it would be nice to get the lead something. Not to mention I figured whatever Ricky had planned to prove himself to me was going to happen tonight and that honestly was making me nervous than the show.

"What's that?" Raf asked as I sat in his passenger seat holding the box.

"A gift for Ricky." I answered.

"So you two are together?" He asked as he started driving.

"No." I shook my head. "Not yet anyway." I answered smiling lightly at the box. "Have you heard from Gina."

"Yeah actually. She says she's sending in a surprise for me." He replied.

"So you two are good?" I asked.

"Long distance isn't ideal but we both decided we were worth trying it for." He shrugged a smile across his lips.

"To think the playboy found his perfect girl." I commented putting the box carefully in my bag.

"Yeah yeah." He replied. Soon enough we were at the school working on the sets.

People called me left and right to make sure they were painting everything correctly. I was working on the moon for the main Troy and Gabriella scene. I didn't realize that everyone finished up and started heading out and I was left working alone.
