Part 24: A Relief From Stress

Lapis Pov:

My eyes slowly open on a plain white, panel ceiling. I gradually sit up and look around, huh, looks like I'm in the nurses' office, I sit on the edge of the bed, and take another look around before sighing slightly. After sitting for a second I hear footsteps, looking up I see Peridot come into the room with a worried look on her face, the second she spots me she hurries over,

"Lapis! oh stars, are you okay? What happened?" I nod slightly as i glance up at her,

"Yeah... I'm ok... just, a little sore is all" she sits on the edge of the bed next to me,

"Sore? Lapis, your nose was bleeding and you were curled up on the floor... please, tell me what happened?" I look down at the floor for a moment before looking over at her,

"Well... I... I ran into Jasper... and we had an... argument, so to say" she places her hand on top of mine, looking at me reassuringly.

Slowly I look up at her, and smile softly at her, I lean over, wrapping my arms around her as I lean my head onto her shoulder. After a minute of just sitting with my arms around her I sit up, smiling at her as we both stand up, we walk over to the nurse and sign ourselves out.

I pick up my bag and we head out of the nurses' office and into the hallway. We make our way out the front of the school, we start walking to the local park, our hands entwined together. As we get there we both sit on a swing, rocking back and forth slowly, staring at the view of the ocean. After a minute of staring Peridot turns to face me,

"Hey Lapis... I know you probably might not want to talk about Jasper right now... but I might have some good news" I turn to her, slightly curious,

"Good news?" she nods slightly,

"Yeah... so not long after I found you someone reported Jasper to the principal, I guess someone must have seen what he did, but, well, he's been expelled, so... I guess you'll never have to see him again."

I look down at my feet, kicking them against the ground as O swing, an ever so slight smile spreading across my face.

I turn back to Peridot, reaching my hand out to hers,

"You know... shortly after I moved away, I found myself actually missing Jasper, even after all he did to me I missed him... but now, sitting here with you, that idea seems more ridiculous than it did back then... because it's you that I should have been missing" she smiles at me, a warm glow in her eyes, the gentle creak of the chains from the swings echoing distantly in our ears.

Plopping myself down on my bed I hastily pull my phone out of my bag, turning it on and going straight to my emails, as soon as it opens I spot the email i've been waiting for, I take a deep breath before I open it,

Dear Ms Lazuli,

We are proud to say that your application to Beach City University (BCU) has been accepted for the Ocean and Marine Biology course and the Creative Arts course from 20XX-20XX, which will commence august 4th 20XX...

As soon as I finish reading the opening paragraph I jump up with excitement, throwing my phone down on my bed as I happily jump about for a second. I quickly run out the door and downstairs into the kitchen where Peridot is about to take the trash outside.

As I run in she turns to look at me,

"Peri! guess what guess what guess what!" she chuckles slightly at my excitement,

"Well, did you get a winning lottery ticket?" I shake my head, bouncing on my toes excitedly,

"Nope, guess again" she smirks, placing the trash bag down and folding her arms, pretending to think,

"Hmm, I don't know Lapis, why don't you just tell me?" I hop forward slightly, cupping her hands in mine,

"I got accepted into bcu!!" her eyes light up and she leans in, hugging me firmly,

"Lapis that's great! I knew you could do it!" I nod as I resume bouncing on my toes,

"Now we can start looking for a place together!" she nods as she turns, picking up the trash bag and opening the back door, chuckling at my excitement,

"Hold up there, no need to be hasty, we'll get to that, at least we can celebrate you tonight."

I sit down at the kitchen table, tapping my foot against the floor, waiting for Peridot to come back in, after a second she comes back in, closing the door behind her. She sits next to me and we talk about what we think university life will be like. After a short while Peridot goes to talk with everyone in the other room, she comes back with a slightly mischievous smile on her face, I smirk back at her in turn,

"What? something on my face?" she grins as she sits back down next to me,

"Yeah, that cute expression of yours" I chuckle and playfully punch her on the shoulder. After we've been talking for an hour or so Peridot gets up from her chair, pulling me up with her she smiles as she pulls me by my hand, leading me upstairs and into our room, she sits me down on the edge of my bed,

"Now Lapis, you're gonna wait here until I call on you, understand?" I smile, a little confused, but also a little intrigued,

"Okay... gonna tell me why?" she shakes her head, grinning at me,

"Nope, you're just going to have to wait and find out" I smile as I watch her slowly back out of the room, grinning at me before she hops down the stairs.

Once a couple of minutes have passed I hear Peridot call me from downstairs,

"Okay Lapis, you can come out now!" I stand up off my bed, heading out the door and downstairs, walking into the living room. I'm faced with everyone huddled in a group facing me, as I walk in Amethyst pulls a party popper, sending confetti everywhere. I chuckle slightly in surprise,

"Wha... what's all this?" Steven smiles warmly at me,

"Well we thought we thought we'd celebrate you getting into university, you tried so hard after all" I smile, blushing slightly as I stand in front of them.
