I walked out of the pub, laughing my head off at something my best friend, Cody, had just said. "No but, seriously! What if I was right?" he said loudly. "Then I'd die. Honestly, Cody, there's no such thing as giant glowing squirrels." I said laughing. "Its like saying that magic exists, crazy." I added. Cody scoffed and we continued walking. "I wouldn't be so sure about that, Freya Rae." said a dark voice from an alley as we passed. I froze. "Cody? Did you-" "Yeah." Cody whispered. A woman with flowing brown hair in a white overcoat stepped out into the light. "Hello Freya. And Cody." she said, her voice smooth and clear. I stood still. Cody stood devensively in front of me. "Who are you?" Cody asked warily. "A friend." the woman replied in her soft, melodious voice. A flicker of movement caught my eye. "Cody, run." I warned as three men, all dressed in black, leapt silently to the ground. My best friend gulped and tore off into the night, with me hot on his tail. "Who the bloody hell was that?!" he gasped when we reached my apartment building. I shook my head, breathing too hard to speak. I nodded to the doorman, Tom. We walked up the stairs, I lived on the second floor, to my door and I fumbled for my key. I unlocked the door and stepped inside. I flipped the light switch. 'Click' Nothing. I flipped it a few more times. 'Click' 'Click' 'Click' "What the hell?" I breathed. I heard a crash from the next room and a muffled curse. I grabbed a can of Lysol and shook it. "What are you doing?" Cody whispered. "Have you ever had this stuff in your eyes?" I asked quietly. "No." he whispered. "Good. It hurts like hell." I said creeping forward. I saw a figure outlined in the dim light from my window. I tapped it on the shoulder and sprayed it in the face with Lysol. The figure gripped my wrist and twisted it. I screeched in pain. "Freya!" shouted Cody. I heard the thumping of footsteps. "Cody, no! Stay back!" I shouted. The figure chuckled darkly and punched my nose. Pain exploded behing my nose and my vision flickered between dark and more dark. "TOM!" I shrieked. I heard footsteps thumping up the stairs and heard the doorman burst through the door. "Oi! Leave her alone!" the ginger-haired man shouted. The intruder laughed coldly. "Leave it be, doorman!" he said threateningly. "What does the Setting Sun want with Freya?" Tom asked angrily. "Everything." the intruder cackled, delivering a swift kick in the stomach. The air swept out of my chest. "This isn't your turf, mate." Tom warned. The intruder grinned, his teeth reflecting the light of the streetlights outside. "I beg to differ, mate." he hissed. Tom's

blue-green eyes glowed. Wait, glowed? "In that case..." the doorman trailed off. "Cody, go!" I yelped as the intruder yanked me to my feet, holding a frighteningly sharp blade to my neck. I clenched my eyes shut, terrified. I heard a loud snarl, sounding almost wolfish. Then, I was knocked to the floor, suddenly free from my attacker's grasp. I dared to open my eyes. What I saw was breathtaking. A huge ginger wolf forcing a man with a sword back, closer and closer to the window. I scooted backwards until my back was against the wall. Tom was nowhere to be seen. Unless, Tom was the wolf. No. That's ridiculous. But it seemed to be the only explanation. My nose and a deep cut in my wrist were bleeding profusely, and everything was out of focus. I guess eventually I lost too much blood, because everything was spinning and turning dimmer and dimmer. Then it all fell away. Colour then shapes, then basic silhouettes, all bled into one another. Then everything went black.
