Anna's dream

chapter 5

Finally Anna and her mom got home after being stucked up in traffic for about three
hours,they arrived home at exactly 4: 30pm. Anna was exhausted and famished at the same time,had she known
She would have eaten something back at school when she had escorted Mabel to the cafeteria earlier and now her stomach was dancing ' tesumole' she couldn't wait to get down from the car and head to the kitchen directly cause from the look of things she might faint anytime soon.

Immediately the car drove into the compound she alighted and headed straight to the door fishing out her keys from her bag as she went, she opened the door and stepped in. There house wasn't big,it was a two bedroom apartment ( each room with it's bathroom) with a small kitchen,a dinning room and the sitting room. The sitting room was painted in purple and white with purple curtains and matching purple chairs, and the small plasma tv was situated at the center of the wall with the sound systems around it and two vase flowers on both sides. Pictures of Anna when she was an infant and another one of when she had graduated from kindergarten were hung on the wall with two other pictures of her parents on  their wedding day and the other one of the whole family. They had a small backyard were they did there laundry and could even plant a garden if they wanted.

" Honey, I know you must be very tired. why don't you go and freshen up first while I prepare dinner ok"
" Ok mum" and instead of heading to the kitchen she headed to her room and layed down on her bed. She heard her mom's room door open and close ( which was directly opposite her room) some minutes later she heard the door open again she immediately got up and entered the bathroom.

Thirty minutes later, Anna had already showered and changed into a  bum short and a pink crop top and was presently standing at the kitchen door smilling at her mom who was dishing out the noodles she had cooked into two plates.

Her mother was a slender woman with a fair glowing skin with average height,she had dimples on both cheeks which always sank in whenever she smiled.
Sometimes Anna wonders why she turned out dark skinned like her father,

weren't female children supposed to look more like their moms and boys their dads?

Well  hers was different,she was dark skinned like her dad and a bit curvy, and a bit shorter than her mum and apparently too tall for a fourteen year old girl, people said that it was due to the fact that both of her parents weren't short. She didn't have dimples like her mom but she had a cute smile and shoulder length hair,a trait she might have gotten from her dad cause her mom didn't have such long hair.

In all,her mom was a very beautiful woman and kind hearted; but hey she can be a typical Nigerian mom when she wants to be especially when she is broke or stressed out but even at that she was a very cool person and Anna appreciated that about her.

Anna had spaced out and hadn't noticed when her mom had walked up to her holding the two plates and was now standing in front of her.

" Hello, madam day dreamer what were you daydreaming about that is making you to smile like this" her mom said bringing her out of her trance.

' ow nothing mom, I was just thinking of how lucky I and dad are for having someone like you in our lives' her mom smiles
" And I am the luckiest woman on Earth to have both of you in my life, you two are the best things that have happened to me' she says still smiling. And just when I was enjoying the moment she switched to Nigerian mum mode.

" Ain't you going to collect these plates and set them on the dinning table or should I do it myself after cooking it now you want me to take it to the dinning table for you abi , just because I decided to help you today seeing that you are tired you have started losing your manners  abi, come on collect these plates joor "

Anna collected the plates and went and set them on the table and then also got two bottles of water and two glass cups for her and her mom before joining her mom at the dinning table.
" Anna say the prayers"her mom ordered
And they both closed their eyes as Anna began praying

" Our heavenly father,we thank you for the food set before us. Bless it and sanctify it, give to those that don't have in Jesus name I pray" and they both chorused Amen. Her mom hadn't complained about the short prayer because she was very hungry herself,on normal days she would have preached to her about short prayers. Her mom believed in saying long prayers all the time and if asked to pray herself she would commit the travelers and each and every Nigerian citizen of course when she is in her Nigerian mom mode.
She only allows Anna to say  the prayers when she is very hungry just like today.

They ate in silence and only the sounds of clicking cutleries where heard.

Just then Anna remembered what her mom had told her in the morning and decided to ask her again.

" Mum earlier this morning you told me Daddy will be coming over next week so which day exactly is he coming, owww I can't wait to see him" Anna said with a glint of happiness in her eyes.

" Anna table manners" her mom said not even looking up at her and continued eating.

Anna scrunched up her face, but then she  decided to  just have to ask her again after dinner.

" Anna how was your first day at school today" her mom asked.

Talk about table manners, but of course she couldn't say that out loud

Anna and her mom were done eating and we're seated in the sitting room watching a telenovela on"Romanza+Africa" titled 'here with me' . They were watching the scene where Adrian had found out that Jennifer is Katrine and that Jeremy was his son, but then he still decided to push through with his wedding with Nicole because she was pregnant and to him was the right thing to do.

Anna's mom hissed," I don't know what's wrong with this Filipino people, how can you be in love with someone and marry someone else in the name of doing the right thing, that's nonsense"
" Me it's this Adrian that is vexing me, haba the guy is selfish nah, how can you choose someone else over a person that sacrificed so much for you and he didn't even consider all the hardship she went through all this years. The guy is a first class mumu, ave even lost interest in watching the movie sef. Let me go and sleep" Anna said standing up and pecking her mom on the cheeks' " goodnight Mom I love you"
" I love you too baby, sleep tight ok and don't forget to pray ok " her mom replied without taking her eyes off the television  she was too engrossed in the movie.

Anna just headed to her room and changed into her pyjamas and said her prayers after which she climbed into her bed and dozed off.
