Anna's dream

chapter 8

They were seated in the cafeteria eating, the cafeteria had about fifty tables and four chairs on each. Anna had bought two meat pies and a bottle of coke which she hadn't been able to finish and had ended up eating only one meat pie and had given Mabel the other one who had eaten three meat pies already and was eating the fourth one.

"Mabel don't tell me you intend on finishing everything, you've eaten three already and you still have two remaining and then there are two bottles of fanta unopened, kilode  do you want to kill yourself?"
I asked her with wide eyes, ave never seen anyone eat that much.

" My dear you've not seen anything, it's because I didn't bring enough cash today I'll have eaten like seven sef "  she said and continued munching the one in her hand.
I was shocked.

Two minutes later she was done like she ate all five of the meat pies and had gulped down one bottle of the fanta and was about opening the second. Anna grabbed the bottle just as she was about to remove the cap.
" No I won't let you, you will have to drink this one later you've eaten enough for today Jesus Christ... and I wonder where all the food goes to you don't look chubby or are you eating for two?"Anna said she still couldn't believe her eyes.
" You sef what's wrong with eating to your fill, see I was eating my breakfast and lunch altogether I didn't get to eat breakfast at home today I didn't wake up on the and before I could put something in my stomach the school bus had arrived so I had to rush out" Mabel replied.
"Still that was too much" Anna insisted.
" Ok ma, so what are we going to be doing now since we still have like five minutes before the break will be over, and don't tell me that we should go back to class that's a big  NO" Mabel said entwining her hands on the table..

" Ok so let's get to know each other more, you tell me things I don't know about and I do the same is that ok"
"Yep let's do it so I'll go first, as you know my name is Mabel Idris, and am fourteen years old. I am from Gombe state and am Tera by tribe actually my dad is Tera and my mom is Tangale both from Gombe. I am from a family of five, I have two siblings Musa and Mary Ann. I am the firstborn, my Dad is a nurse and my mum owns a  boutique and my hobbies are eating and reading.."
" Obviously" Anna cut her mid sentence and rolled her eyes.
" Yes so can I continue now, and don't interrupt me again. So as I was saying my hobbies are eating and reading and I also like traveling, am an average student and.... I think that's all or is there anything else you would like to know?" Mabel continued.

" Yes, why does your father bear the name Idris, isn't he a Christian?" Anna asked.

" Ow yes he is a Christian, it happens his dad is a Muslim while his mum is a Christian so the family is a mix of Muslims and Christians. Some of his siblings are Muslims while some are Christian's but my grandfather gave all of them Muslim names so.." Mabel responded.

" Ow that's cool, well we don't have Muslims in our family we are all Christian's" Anna said placing her chin in her hands.
" Ok so now it's your turn"

" Ok so you know my name,my parents jobs and the name of my former school I said it in class on Monday" Anna started.
Mabel nods in approval.

"Both my parents are Yoruba, my mom is from Ondo while my Dad is from Oyo. My hobbies are reading and watching movies, and what else let me see..." She started tapping her chin trying to figure out what to say next.
She clicked her fingers " yes I have to tell you about my cousins  cause I really need to let it out, does guys are so frustrating as hell. Do you know we went to Ondo last Christmas to spend it at my grandparents only for me to get there and find out that it was a family reunion and I was like what the hell!! why didn't anybody tell me cause I would  have definitely  stayed back in Osun. Those cousins of mine are devious, there is pregnant Christy is not that she is pregnant but I just decided to be calling her that . She behaves like a pregnant woman, the cravings  and laziness, do you know that there was a day she made I and one of our other cousins Isaac trek for almost three hours to go and get her samosa , only for her tell us when we got back that she didn't want samosa again can you Imagine?" Mabel bursts into laughter.
" And that's not all"  Anna continued" there was this day we wanted to cook amala  and  ogbono  soup for lunch but she insisted we  prepare pounded yam and egusi soup instead. Do you know that the yeye  Christy left the work to us and went and layed down pretending to have stomachache. You can imagine how hard it is to pound yam for almost fifteen people and they made me do the pounding because I was the youngest amongst them, that day I almost fainted before grandma came to my rescue. She ordered that I shouldn't do any work for the rest of my stay there and that was how I was able to complete the break alive"
By now Mabel was holding her stomach due to the fact that she had been laughing her bawls out hearing Anna's story. She wondered how Anna always coped when she was around her cousins, she had never experienced such cause her cousins were nice. She didn't think she could stay in the same house with such people, they were really devious.
" My dear sannu*   thank God you survived but your death would have made the newspaper headlines " A GIRL IN ONDO DIES AFTER POUNDING YAM" that would have been sad but hilarious at the same time" Mabel said giggling.
" And my ghost would have haunted them for the rest of their lives ahswear " Mabel bursts into another fit of laughter" but thank God I didn't  die but I almost did, I tell you" Anna continued
" Madam  it have do* can we go to class now the bell rang almost fifteen seconds ago" Mabel said getting up from her seat

" The bell has been rang already" Anna asked Mabel surprised" but I didn't hear it ring "

" Well it was and now we have to get to class, we are having mathematics now and Mr. Sanda is a very strict man"
" Ok" Anna said getting up
" Madam my fanta don't think I have forgotten" Mabel said grabbing the bottle of fanta from Anna."
" Ah! Mabel you and food oya take" Anna said loosening her grip on the bottle. She  just shook her head  someone that just ate five meat pie and a bottle of fanta, Some people can eat.
Before Anna could say Jack Mabel had  gulped down everything, is she normal she wondered.

If Christy happens to be my cousin I don't know what I would do but I'll definitely do something.
