Hey, guys, so, funny story. I forgot to tell you what happened between that night and graduation. Isn't that just great?
Basically, the teachers freak out and the entire middle school gets a talking to. It's kind of stupid if you ask me. Half the kids spilled their hearts out, and the other half were just trying to make people laugh. What's wrong with that? The wedding got moved to mid June which stressed Eva and Mare out. There's a lot wrong with that. Jake's aunt, the one he hates, tried to get custody of him, and the judge wouldn't let her, but deemed Jake's uncle unfit as well, so he is supposed to go into foster care. Again, a lot wrong with that. The good thing is two of Jake's grandparent's friends, Charles and James who were mentioned earlier, are foster parents and take Jake in. Jake and Eva exchanged numbers at graduation and some evenings and afternoons, Eva, Jake, and Mare meet up behind the school to talk. Did I miss anything? Oh, yeah. Maggie forgave Eva and told Mare all kinds of embarrassing stories about Eva. So, you know, that's nice.Currently, it's the weekend before the wedding, which is Wednesday, and Eva and Mare are getting desperate.
"What are we going to do?" Mare asked. "Why would she marry him? Is she blind?"
Practically.
"Do we tell them? Eva asked. "It's one of the few options I can think of."
"I hate to admit it, but it might be one of our last options," Mare said.
"What other options do we have?" Eva asked.
"I don't know," Mare admitted.
"Is your dad still texting her?" Eva asked.
"Yeah," Mare said.
Why? It's three days before the wedding! The only reason I can think of is you're a shitty human being which I think we already established.
"Do you think you could do something with that?" Eva asked.
"Maybe," Mare admitted. "We could switch the names in his phone."
"I can do it," Eva told her.
Mare looked down. "I know. I want to do it, but at the same time."
"I get it," Eva said. "I can do it tomorrow when he gets ready for work."
"What does your mom have planned for us to do tomorrow?" Mare asked.
"We are going to the venue where we will have the rehearsal dinner," Eva said.
"This sucks," Mare said, her eyes beginning to fill with tears, but she changed the topic. "How's Jake doing with Charles and the other guy. I forgot his name."
Oh, trust me I know. I am horrible with names.
"Charles and James," Eva said, obviously happy to move away from the topic at hand. "He likes it. They used to come to every bingo night his grandparents hosted."
"That's cool," Mare said.
"Yeah," Eva said.
They stop talking. Obviously, lost in thought. I can't blame them, I would be, too.
"Come here," Eva said.
Mare crossed from her air mattress to Eva's bed and sat next to her. Eva wrapped her arms around her girlfriend as Mare began to cry.
"I know," Eva said, stroking her hair. "I know."
