"Sorry kid, it ain't happening. You might as well give up."
Those last two words shattered Izuku's heart to the point of making him drop his favorite All Might action figure. Next to him was a slender woman in her mid-20s, with green hair, green eyes, and a nice personality, all of which the Midoriya child inherited. She is known as Inko Midoriya.
"Excuse me, but you are 4th generation, right, ma'am?"
"Uh... yeah. My Quirk allows me to attract small objects, and my husband can breathe fire." She simultaneously picks up Izuku's action figure.
"Well, normally, by age 4, he would have manifested one of those Quirks, or some combination of both." The doctor then points to an x-ray of Izuku's left foot. "You can see by looking at this x-ray that Izuku has two joints." He then points to the pinky toe. The 4-year-old feels worse after hearing the following: "It's unusual to see that these days, but having two joints on his pinky toe means that he has no Quirk."
"Oh..."
"I'm sorry ma'am."
20 minutes later
Izuku goes straight to his room after arriving at the apartment complex. Inko, meanwhile, was looking with a sad expression. If only he knew-
"Honey, kiddo, I'm home!"
-which he will. Inko is surprised to see her husband arrive from work early.
Hisashi Midoriya. Tall, slightly muscular, and caring is what he is. Izuku is just lucky to have a father such as he is.
"You're quite early, dear."
"I know, I just got impatient to find out how the Quirk appointment went."
"Oh... um, it... " She then looks down to the floor, sadly; it doesn't go unnoticed, though.
"Inko? Are you OK? What happened?
"..."
"Come on, say something."
"It's Izuku..." She then starts sobbing lightly, much to Hisashi's confusion. "He's... the doctor said he's Quirkless..."
Hisashi's blue eyes widened at the realization. His only son is Quirkless. But the sadder part is that he's Quirkless AND he wants to be a hero. He then decides-
"I'll talk to him."
-to calm him down after Inko is done talking to the likely-to-be devastated child.
"Okay. Tell me how it goes. I'll call the Bakugos to let them know."
"Alright," Inko agrees.
As she makes her way to his door and opens it, she notices his All Might-themed room had not one light on, except the computer, which is playing a video of the #1 hero himself saving myriad civilians after a clash with his archenemy, All For One-which, by the way, is also the name of his Quirk-a few years ago. On a chair in front of his desk, there he was, motionless, watching the video. Seconds pass steadily, when Izuku starts to speak up, gaining his mother's undivided attention.
"Mom..." She slowly turns to face the back of his chair. "He's such a cool hero..." The 4-year-old follows her previous action, only for his mother's heart to nearly break at the sight of his tear-filled eyes, depressed smile (if it can even be referred as so), and the sound of his voice cracking, all while pointing at the desktop screen. "Can I... be a hero too?"
