Somebody; Nobody

3rd person POV

"Who are you?" Spider-Man asked.

Ever since he beat the thugs, he and the masked man in the housecoat have been keeping their eyes on each other in case one made a sudden movement.

The man chuckled, making Spider-Man more uneasy about the situation. "Oh, I'd like to tell you; unfortunately, I'm running a bit late," he said, taking something from his pocket and throwing it at the vigilante.

The next thing he knew, smoke filled more than half the room.

A smoke bomb?! thought Spider-Man.

The man, whom Spider-Man assumed is a villain, saw an opportunity to escape while the "hero" was stunned. He jumped out an already-open window. While falling, he pressed a button on his belt, which released a cloud of purple gas. His clothes, coming into contact with said gas, changed a bit in terms of texture, yet drastically in terms of color: it changed from its regular tone to a vibrant, vivid, violet hue. Then, he pulled out a life-like mask resembling an old man's face, and wore it. To match the mask's texture, his skin started to change to the point where it was all wrinkly. Not that anyone else would notice. Besides, only his hands were exposed. He landed on his feet and quickly sneaked towards an alley right next to the building, where he took out an extendable walking cane.

That man completely changed his appearance in just a matter of seconds, all while falling from a building's 4th floor.

Spider-Man, stunned due to the smoke, heard footsteps leading to what he remembered to be the windows.

Don't tell me... he thought before making up his mind to go after him.

He leaped through the same window he entered, then maneuvered himself to the wall, towards the spot where he was eavesdropping earlier, successfully escaping from the smoke in the process.

He looked around the street, mostly at the sidewalks, trying to spot the masked man. To think that he threw himself out the window to get away... The red-and-blue vigilante still couldn't believe it. What's crazy is that he wasn't anywhere on the sidewalk to be found. In fact, said sidewalk was totally deserted: no pedestrian, no faceless guy lying on the ground. At least, totally deserted until he saw an old man dressed in all-purple walking along, minding his own business. The other side, though, actually had a few people walking by.

Sirens echoed nearby, and then, seconds later, the vigilante was able to see the source of the sound: police cars, and they're headed towards this building. That was when he just noticed the smoke flowing out of the window.

That was also when he thought he should get away from the scene, as being interrogated by the police or getting caught by a Pro Hero were the last things he wanted.

And so that's what Spider-Man did: he fled the area, obviously getting glances from civilians, swinging on his merry way home to not worry his mother too much, all while thinking about how to stop that villain in case they cross each other again. Although... it doesn't help much that he doesn't know his Quirk, or if he even has one.
