RODRICK'S POV
4:21pm Monday,
Heffley residence

"Rodrick" I hear a familiar voice yell out from the other side of my garage door.

I lift it up and Alexis flashes me a smile and tucks her hair behind her ear.

"i thought it was band practice today", she asks taking a seat in her usual spot.

I shake my head no, "Ben couldn't make it so I thought I'd just cancel today's practice".

she stands up walking towards my drum set, that was set up in the middle of the garage.

"well could you try teach me how to play the drums, but I mean I'll probably be horrible at it", she giggles.

hearing her giggles gave me slight butterflies, but I push my feelings away, cause I mean why should I bother having feelings for someone who's so out of my league. she'd never feel the same about me.

"no harm in trying though so, now grab the sticks and position your arms like this", I show her and she copies me putting her arms into position.

"what next?" she asks.

"with your right hand, tap this drum twice" I explain and she does it.

"okay now do that again but after that with your left hand tap this" I say showing her what to do and she struggles to do it.

"I think I'll just leave playing the drums to you", she chuckles handing me the drumsticks back.

"seeing as you've never played the drums before, you were pretty", I shrug and she rolls her eyes at me.

"liar, I was horrible" she says laughing causing me to laugh aswell.

I put on some music as we sit on the floor, and Alex laid her head onto my shoulder, humming along to the song.

ALEXIS' POV

"you going to the school dance?" I ask and he shakes his head no.

"I don't have anyone to go with so there's no point going y'know" he explains.

my stomach is filled up with butterflies as I prepare myself to ask him.

"well why don't you come with me", I say trying to seem confident, but in the inside I just wanted melt away.

"really? ", he says shocked. what if he doesn't want to go? I'm an idiot.

"yeah- yes I'll go" he smiles widely and a wave of relief hits me.

I slightly jump onto him as I engulf him in a huge hug. he let's out a few chuckles and I can feel his chest vibrate against mine.

I let go of him with a huge smile on my face his smile was almost was as big as mine, "sorry I'm just really excited" I say, embarrassed.

"that's okay and I am too, I mean I'm going to dance with the most beautiful girl to walk the earth", he says causing a tint of red to appear on my cheeks.

The words Perla says play through my head over and over, 'I know you like Rodrick and he likes you, it's obvious to everyone but you two'.
