On the same night, I was in my bed staring at the ceiling.
Insomnia, I had insomnia but why?
I heard soft knocking on my room door and Violate voice came after “Amber, are you asleep?”
So I guess I’m not the only one who couldn’t sleep either.
I got out of my bed and opened the door to find Violate with her blanket on. “Did I wake you up?” she smiled.
“No, I couldn’t sleep” I said.
“Me too, can I come in?” she questioned.
I was going to say no, but I remembered my promise that I made four hours ago so I said “yeah… sure”.
“So what were you doing?” she asked.
“Nothing, just staring at the wall” I answered.
“Me too!” she giggled, even though I didn’t find it funny.
She sat on the floor, wrapping her blanket around her; I sat beside her with my back to the bed.
“Your room in the dark is way more noticeable with all these neon light you have” she said looking around “I really like it” she continued.
“Thanks” I smiled.
She noticed the guitar “why did you stop playing on the guitar?”
If I had knew she was going to ask many questions, I wouldn’t have let her in, but I answered anyway.
“I… I don’t know why, I just quit, I just lost the interest of playing on guitar”
“What are you interested in nowadays?”
Oh.my.god. I’m starting to regret it, not only having her in my room but making her comeback.
“Writing… I guess” I told her.
Her eyes widened “Writing? Writing what?”
“Uhm… songs?”
“That’s AWESOME!” she said excitedly.
“Calm down, it’s nothing” I giggled.
“It is something! I didn’t expect you to write and play on guitar, back at my school; nobody and I mean nobody knows how to hold an instrument”
“Aren’t you at some private school?” I asked this time.
“Yeah, but they are strict to studying more than anything else” she answered.
“Aren’t there any clubs?”
“One only, PAINTING and it’s boring like hell, all we had painted was some stupid vase with flowers” she frowned.
“Oh, that does sound boring” I said “now you tell me what are you interested in or… what do you like to do?”
“Drama… it’s all about the drama honey” she said that and raised her hands like she was glorifying the lord.
I laughed at her reaction and thought that she was a drama queen, and then asked her “you mean acting?”
“YES! Acting is my life, I like being on stage and be this shiny star! But it’s just a dream that won’t come true…” she huffed.
“Why not?” I asked.
“Well my parents don’t seem to like having me as an actress, they want me to be a lawyer or something important_” she stopped when she noticed annoyance is evident on my face.
“I’m… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way” she apologized.
I stood up and walked towards the window giving Violate my back.
Even though it occurred to me many times but I just admitted to myself now, that Violate's father is the man who ruined my happiness and her mom - our mom - also ruined it by leaving us, and there she is, their daughter, my half-sister in my room talking about how that man and my so called mom didn’t agree for her to be an actress.
But it’s not Violate fault... no it’s not.
“You know” she began “I was looking in our mom dresser for something and I found this small album inside, when I opened it, the first photo was a little girl laughing while she was running, it was you Amber… and that was the day when I discovered I have a sister”
I know what Violate wanted to tell me from that small story… that my mom loved me; our mom loved not only her but me included.
Then why did she leave?
I asked myself this question a zillion times but there was no realistic answer to find… not to me. And I don’t think Violate knew the answer either, so it’s pointless.
I turned around and faced Violate who’s been already staring at me with a concern look.
I didn’t know what to say in respond so I smiled. I walked over and sat again on the floor.
Suddenly out of nowhere Violate asked me “So what’s up with that Adam guy?” she winked.
“Nothing, we’ve only had talked three times” I rolled my eyes.
“Well, he obviously has a crush on you” she giggled.
“Are you kidding?! EW, no” I tried to shake the image of me and him in relationship. As if!
“Oh come on, he’s cute! And beside you can’t deny his adorable smile!”
“He does have a cute smile” I admitted remembering his stupid smile.
“Well he’s better than my ex-boyfriend” she said looking up.
“Boyfriend?” I glared at her.
“Ex-boyfriend” she corrected “we broke up last month”
“Why?” I felt carious and I don’t know why.
“Because he was acting like a jerk lately” she rolled her eyes “plus his family won’t let him hang out with me much”
“What is he? An Asian guy” I smirked and then laughed at my own jock. I expected Violate to laugh along but she didn’t which made me realize …“Oh so he is an Asian guy?”
“Korean” she said.
“What… why would date an Asian guy?”
“I don’t know why, I find them cute…” she sighed.
After conversing with each other for a very long time, we ended up sleeping on the hard floor.
