Who is the real murderer here?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I followed the vamp as he led me through an overgrown forest. There was no indication that any human had ever hiked here.
I had wondered where the government allowed clan reservations to be stationed, but I never thought it would only be an hour away from our school. Way too close to human civilization.
Forests were not something I particularly enjoyed. The identical trees standing together were seemingly unending and the naked branches looked like they were trying to reach out and grab you. Not to mention the sun was beginning to set making it difficult to identify objects in the far distance. Everything was coated in an eerie stillness.
"Why are we in a forest? I thought we had a couple more hours of driving left." The hunter turned back slightly to look at me.
"Scared I might drain you dry in the middle of the woods? Tempting, but it's still early for dinner." I didn't react to his sarcastic comment and continued to examine the forest surroundings. I could hear him audibly smirk to himself. "Kidding...this is the shortcut through the hunting grounds. We'll get to the main house much faster this way. While we're strolling let me tell you some of the rules you shoul---"
I paid no attention to the rest of what he saying when I heard a sudden rustling that made me stop in my tracks.
A deer, craning its neck at me in a rigid stance before it went back to nibbling on the foliage. I release a short breath that I didn't realize I was holding.
"—and don't hurt any member of the clan for any reason- hey! Are you even listening?" He sees me staring at the deer a few feet away from him. "Speed up hunter or it will take us all night to get there!"
I turned to head back and took a final glance at the deer.
As soon as I turned my head the deer started sprinting towards the opposite direction we were heading, taking me by surprise. Its movements were rushed and stumbling as if it was running away from something.
Staring again into the forest all I could see were trees with an occasional bush breaking the pattern. But for all I knew a person could be there standing from afar and I wouldn't give them a second glance.
I jogged to catch up with the vamp who had kept walking further into the forest. I kept scanning my surroundings to look for the source of the deer's frantic dash. But nothing was catching my eye. "Does anyone else usually come through these woods?" I asked.
"This area of the hunting grounds is gated off from our clan. We don't want any accidental exposure since it's so close to the main road. No one is allowed out here except for a handful of officials. Other than that there's also some bears, wolfs, deer, birds and lot of other spooky animals. "
"I see." I hum in response. Instinctively glancing behind me.
"Don't worry I won't let a deer bite you in the ass. Just focus on protecting yourself from me. Isn't that what your good at?" I could tell he was trying to hit some sort of nerve. But it really doesn't make me feel any type of way. All I wondered was if this was some form of passive aggressive payback.
There it was again. The rustling noise. I stop and turn around swiftly in my tracks. Nothing...not even a bear to ease my tension. The vampire sighs.
"If we have to stop every ten seconds to accommodate your paranoid hunter tendencies we might as well have sat through that suffocating car ride." He responds harshly. He's acting like the only one who hated the current situation we're in.
