Ding - Dong. The doorbell rang. I looked at my reflection in the mirror for the last time and then turned around. It was seven pm. Time for dinner. With Kevin.
As I opened the door, I felt guilty and ashamed at myself for feeling happy to see Kevin. He was dressed casually, but he still looked as gorgeous as ever. He made my heartbeat erratic, and I hated him for it.
"Hey", he said as he pecked my lips.
"Hey", I muttered nervously. We hopped inside his car and began to ride.
"Where are we going?", I asked, trying to act normal.
" Big Bite. I hope that's okay with you."
"It's good. I like their food", I said nervously. I couldn't help fidgeting and playing with my hands. I didn't want to pretend that everything was alright. My boyfriend was being hunted by the police and here I was, going on a dinner-date with him.
"Are you alright?", he asked. I only nodded.
When we arrived at Big Bite, we decided to sit on the table beside the window overlooking the road. We looked over at our menus but unsurprisingly, I didn't have an appetite tonight. I was just feeling too...emotional.
"I'll have pork chopsuey and thai soup. What about you?", Kevin asked. "Uh...I think I'll have the same", I replied. A waiter appeared and took our orders. Soon, she arrived back with our dishes.
Our meal was filled with an awkward silence that only stressed me more. I could see that Kevin wanted to talk, but he probably noticed my discomfort.
When dessert arrived, I decided to confront Kevin about himself. I couldn't take it anymore. I wanted to know everything about him. . .and our future.
"Kevin I -"
"Leo - "
Kevin and I spoke at the same time. Kevin chuckled and said, "You go first."
"No, it's alright. You speak first", I said.
"Nah. You say first", he smirked.
"It's nothing important. You tell first", I said. Though I did want to talk to Kevin about 'it', I wanted to postpone it till the end our dinner.
Kevin suddenly looked uneasy. He looked around and laughed nervously. "I - uh - I wanted to talk about....ummm..." He turned pink and started fidgeting.
What was wrong with Kevin? Why was he suddenly acting so strange? Oh no, was he about to tell me the truth? Was he about to reveal his real identity to me? Not that it mattered because I already knew it now.
Kevin suddenly placed a small velvet box on the table before me. Uh oh. Inside it was a breathtaking silver ring with a small sparkling stone embedded on it. I was speechless. My eyes widened as I took a guess as to what would happen next. Shit.
"I'm - uh - not exactly asking you to marry me....I - I just want you to wear this ring as a mark that you're mine. To show everyone that you're taken. And as a sign of love between us....kinda like a...ummm...promise ring, you know." Kevin turned red and he looked bashfully at me.
I couldn't breathe. I couldn't see either. Tears blurred my vision. My heartbeat was not in it's normal pace and I just sat there, unable to utter a word. My hands trembled as I tried to decipher the different emotions I was going through. This...this couldn't be happening. Not now.
"Leo, will you wear this ring?", Kevin asked shyly.
Oh. My. Fu*king. God. Help me!
Hehe. To be continued in the next chapter! :) →→→
