Chapter 7: Training Concludes

A dueling with Tanjiro shouldn't be frightening you as much as it should be. Honestly, spending time with your bestfriend makes you more excited than scared. Yet, you couldn't help but have fear for this dueling. It was like adrenaline was pumping throughout your body as you stared on the ground with your sword on your belt. You were sitting on a log surrounded by the forest. You were shaking a bit as you brother was looking at you.

Daisuke senses you shaking as he bends down a little bit to pat your back nonchalantly. You turned around to look at him as he sends you a tiny smile. "Quit being nervous kiddo. You're just dueling with Tanjiro. We're not gonna let you two hurt each other.. Maybe." Daisuke reassured as you shook your head.

"That's not it." you said as Daisuke looks at you questioningly. You turned your head and looked ahead to see Tanjiro preparing for the duel. Tanjiro was calm as ever as he was listening to Sabito and Urokodaki with a determined expression. He turned his head to see you staring at him. He was a bit concerned, but he sent you a small smile as you smiled back. He turns around as you sighed for a bit.

You continued your sentence, "Tanjiro is probably stronger than me. He has a retired Hashira and two current Hashiras training him. He's probably better than me." Daisuke looks at you with a tiny glare.

"Are you saying that I suck at training you?" he asked jokingly. Yet, you took it litterally as you looked at your brother and shook your head.

"N-no! I'm just nervous.. That's all." you admitted as he chuckles a bit.
"Chill shorty. It doesn't matter what ever the rank of the trainer is. If they teach you the correct skills at the right time, then you'll be alright." Daisuke said and pats your head. He messes your hair a little bit as you pouted. You sighed as Urokodaki looks up and stares as your brother to signal that Tanjiro is ready. Daisuke nods as he looks at you.

"Good luck out there (Y/N)." Daisuke said as you nodded. "Yeah, yeah. Thanks." you said as you took a deep breath. You tried to hype yourself up by mentally slapping yourself in the face. You grinned a bit as you grabbed your sword and began to walk towards the center of the field. Tanjiro met up with you in the middle and positions himself as he looks at you with a smile. You looked at him and gave a nervous smile.

He sniffed the air and smelled that you were nervous. He began to speak, "Hey (Y/N), don't worry. You're going to do amazing." His encouragement gave you a little smile as you took a deep breath.

"Ready (Y/N)?" Tanjiro said as you looked at him with a determined face.

"I won't lose." you said as you stared at him. He grins at you. Urokodaki interrupts the interaction between you two by explaining the rules.

"The rules goes as follows. Don't make each other bleed. First one to fall will lose. The whole terrain is your battleground. Ready?" Urokodaki said as he looked at you two. Tanjiro and you both nodded as Urokodaki began to speak.

"Go." Urokodaki said as the two of you commenced fighting.

You took the first move as you held the sword grip with both of your hand at your right side with your elbows bent. You began to slash at Tanjiro as he jumps to his left, dodging the move. He was proud of your swordsmanship as he looks at you with determined eyes. He began to charge at you. You immediately took a defensive stance as you stopped his blade from knocking you out.The two metals clashed as Tanjiro and you were staring at each other from the intense proximity.

"So, are you strong enough to push me down Tanji~?" you joked a bit as Tanjiro smiles at you.

"Haha! You haven't called me that since we were little. C'mon, let's get serious!" Tanjiro said with a smile. You smirked as you began to feel all of the excitement running throughought your body. The both of you continued to push until you decided to jump back. 'I just had a great idea.' you thought as you turned around to run towards the log you were sitting on before.
